A Brief Overview

The Respiratory Care Assistant is learning and incorporating the mission statement and standards of behavior of his/her hospital or care facility. This Assistant performs basic competencies within orientation and provides satisfactory respiratory care independently post verification of education and completed competency.

 

What You Will Do

  • Medicated aerosol delivery
  • Airway clearance therapy
  • Patient monitoring (bedside spirometry, noninvasive monitors, and ECG)
  • Oxygen and humidity therapy
  • Special procedures (CPR, collect data, equipment setups)

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.


Education

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited respiratory care program (Required)

 

Work Experience

  • Experience in basic respiratory therapy procedures (Preferred) and
  • Student experience (Required)

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Holder of current Ohio Limited Practice Permit (Required proficiency)

 

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
