Overview

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Radiation Therapist is to participate in a variety of patient care and non-patient care duties involved in the planning and administration of radiation therapy to patients. This individual ensures that patients are treated with meticulous accuracy, promptness, and professionalism. This individual will also interact with attending physicians, physicists, as well as other hospital personnel, to assure quality patient management.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do   

  • Implements manufacturer mandated linear accelerator and CT simulator quality assurance procedures and reports any deficiencies to leadership and/or physics.
  • Initiates daily linear accelerator does output verification procedure prior to patient treatment.
  • Ensures all computer systems are used correctly.
  • Ensures appropriate data is obtained from patient’s chart, parameter sheet and dosimetry plan and checked for accuracy prior to the initiation of procedures.
  • Ensures treatment aids and immobilization devices are constructed in a timely manner and in accordance with planned technique.
  • Schedules patient simulation appointments.
  • Explains simulation/CT procedures to patient and answers technical questions.
  • Prepares and administers proper contrast under the direction of a physician.
  • Schedules patient for treatment appointments.
  • Positions the patient on the treatment couch according to written technical setup instructions.
  • Prepares treatment room and equipment for patients according to prescription regarding immobilization devices, field size, gantry, and collimator angle, etc.
  • Maintains patient field markings.
  • Obtains required electronic portal images during course of treatment according to department standards. These images include but are not limited to MVCT, KVCT, KV portal images, and MV portal images.
  • Evaluates radiographic images for appropriate positioning and image quality.
  • Verifies monitor units and plan set-ups for patient radiation treatment according to treatment prescription.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).
  • Graduate of an approved AMA program.
  • Current New Jersey Radiation Therapy License or temporary license until the ARRT exam is successfully completed within three months of hire is required.
  • Experience in state-of-the-art radiation therapy modalities is required.
  • BLS is required.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly range for this position is PH/33C:  $49.44- $59.90 - $71.55 per hour. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs.The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
