About the Role

The primary purpose of the Patient Accounts Clerk I position is to serve as the Cash Control Clerk with responsibility for daily deposit preparation, cash posting, and reconciliation of patient related cash received by University Hospital.

 

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do  

  • Prepares bank deposit of mail and interoffice cash receipts. Delivers bank deposit bags to appropriate security retrieval location.
  • Post payments into Healthquest System for inpatient, outpatient and bad debt accounts. Agrees amount posted to control total deposit, researches and reconciles any variances.
  • Researches unidentified payments and initiates correction to appropriate accounts or identifies refund due to carriers or patients.
  • Summarizes daily cash receipt for entry into Banner Accounting System and makes entry into Banner.
  • Reviews and corrects cash error report as needed.
  • Assists billers as needed with retrieval of source materials related to cash processed and posted.
  • Initiates patient/payor refunds as needed. Post refunds previously paid as debits to Healthquest System.
  • Interacts with Accounting Departments at Newark and New Brunswick as needed. Process daily cash transactions in BANNER General Accounting System.
  • Provides back-up support for window cashier at the Hospital Cashier Office as needed.
  • Understands and adheres to University Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in University Hospital's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

 

 

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

 
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a physician’s office or hospital billing.
  • Knowledge of various types of insurance coverage and medical terminology required.
  • Must be PC literate with a quantitative orientation and background in financial transactions and record keeping.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment while maintaining professionalism and customer service.

Compensation

The expected hourly range for this position is TC/1925: Probationary Rate $27.95 - Job Rate $28.45- Two (2) Year Rate $29.30 per hour, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
