About the Role

The primary purpose of the Mental Health Clinician II position is to provide clinical assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, assertive outreach, and comprehensive clinical case management services, utilizing trauma-informed and evidence-based practices effective for the patient population served. The role includes crisis intervention, emotional support, and short-term mental health services for individuals impacted by violence, trauma, and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Services will be delivered in the University Hospital Emergency Department and medical inpatient units as assigned.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct clinical assessments and provide both individual and group psychotherapy using trauma‑informed, evidence‑based approaches.
  • Deliver assertive outreach and comprehensive clinical case management services tailored to the needs of the patient population.
  • Offer crisis intervention, emotional support, and short‑term mental health services to individuals affected by violence, trauma, and co‑occurring mental health or substance use disorders.
  • Provide services within the University Hospital Emergency Department and designated medical inpatient units.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

    • Possession of a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field from a New Jersey–accredited professional school, or be a Licensed Psychologist.
    • Minimum of two (2) years post‑graduate experience in an outpatient mental health clinical setting.
     
    • Must hold one of the following licenses:
      • Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
      • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
      • Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC)
      • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
      • Doctorate or Psy.D. in Psychology from an APA‑accredited program (State of NJ).
     
    • Dual license preferred (Clinical + LCADC).
    • Experience working with trauma survivors from underserved populations.
    • Strong documentation and clinical skills; ability to set priorities and work independently.
    • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Experience in case management and community outreach.
    • Ability to move between different treatment approaches (clinical case management and evidence‑based, trauma‑focused psychotherapy) based on patient needs.
    • Demonstrates cultural humility and a strengths‑based, recovery‑oriented philosophy.
    • Excellent organizational and strong interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.
    • Strong working knowledge of behavioral medicine and evidence‑based treatments for medical and mental health conditions.
    • Comfortable working within an interdisciplinary team; strong communication skills.
    • Good knowledge of psychopharmacology.
    • Ability to design and implement clinical pathways and treatment protocols.
    • Computer literacy required, including Microsoft Office, Epic, and Excel.
    • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is PS/25S $71,728.00 - $86,410.00 - $102,903.00 per year in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
