About the Role

The primary purpose of the Ambulatory Care Technician Certified (Certified Medical Assistant) position is to support the patient and the provider throughout the ambulatory care patient visit from registration through discharge and follow up.

As a Certified Medical Assistant, Ambulatory Care Technician Certified will structure the patient flow for the physicians in the examination and treatment of patients.

As directed by a Physician and University Hospital policy, the Ambulatory Care Technician Certified administers intramuscular and subcutaneous injections which may be delegated under State regulations. The Certified Medical Assistant will support all front end and clinical office procedures.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do  

  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to maintain a timely and organized flow of patients and visitors throughout their experience in Ambulatory Care Services and with University Hospital.
  • Prepares patients for visits including interviewing and screening patients for designated criteria to include but not limited to medical, surgical, gynecological, and obstetric history, medication history, chief complaint, vital signs, pain, and height and weight.
  • Documents all patient encounters in the electronic medical record.
  • Knowledgeable of and then notifies the provider of abnormal vital signs immediately during the patient visit. 
  • Obtains clinical data and performs procedures as requested/directed by the provider:
  • Administers vaccinations and administers subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections according to University Hospital Policy.
  • Provides allergy and other screening as designated by University Hospital policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintains effective working relationship with coworkers; demonstrates teamwork.
  • Verifies patient insurance benefits and precertification for services to be provided.
  • Maintains safe and clean environment; and prepares clinical space and supplies.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Current certification from the certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcare Association (NHA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Certification Medical association (NCMA) or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) required or applicants may be licensed in the State of New Jersey in another classification, such as LPN, permitted by regulations to give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections or a third-year nursing student.
  • Current certification from the certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcare Association (NHA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Certification Medical association (NCMA) or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • BLS (CPR) from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Applicants may be licensed in the State of New Jersey in another classification permitted by regulations to give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
  • Must have attained a satisfactory level of comprehension and experience in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous techniques.
  • Must complete and pass annual review of medication administration, including classroom curriculum, hands on participation and successful passing (80 or higher) of post-test.
  • Must be computer proficient.

Preferred:

  • At least one (1) year of related experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Portuguese, or French) preferred.
  • Experience in an Ambulatory Care service/outpatient care setting preferred.
  • Candidate to be knowledgeable in Managed Care and Health Insurance in the State of New Jersey.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is TT1600: Probationary Rate $23.36 - Job Rate $23.86- Two (2) Year Rate $24.58 per hour, University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs.
