Job Duties:

The Facilities Technician III performs maintenance within the UWM Student Union. The UWM Student Union encompasses five floors and 330,000 square feet, which includes ten dining units, two conference centers, several retail spaces, a recreation center, and an art gallery. Services are also provided for tenants and other departments housed within the facility.   

The Facilities Technician III inspects, maintains, and repairs equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. They assist with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed. This position primarily works 1st shift (7:30am-4pm) Monday through Friday, with flexible or extended hours as determined by department needs. 

Key Job Responsibilities:  

  • Utilizes equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation. 

  • Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness. 

  • Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures. 

  • Manage the receipt, inspects, inventories, and distributes facility-related deliveries to appropriate areas, ensuring accuracy and timely handling. 

  • Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed.

  • Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures

Department: UWM Student Union

Compensation: $22 – 24 per hour

Shift: First

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or completion of equivalent educational program (GED, etc.) 
  • Previous work experience in a facilities maintenance setting or evidence of basic maintenance knowledge. 
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs unassisted. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of facilities maintenance experience. 
  • A degree or technical certification in a specific trade. 
  • Previous experience or abilities demonstrated in the following areas: 
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical 
  • Carpentry 
  • Small engine repair 
  • HVAC 
  • Knowledge of HVAC and building automation systems. 
  • Ability to perform repairs on specialized, commercial equipment. 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, etc.
