Job Duties:

POSITION: A probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor is available in the Department of Languages in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department seeks a versatile candidate with expertise in applied Spanish (e.g., Spanish for health care, professional Spanish, translation and interpretation), committed to excellence and motivated to teach a variety of courses at all proficiency levels. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2026/2027 academic year, August 17, 2026. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in Spanish, in an area of specialization related to applied Spanish. ABD applicants may be considered. Advanced-Mid proficiency or higher in Spanish and English. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and advising.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Evidence of successful university teaching in Spanish, especially related to health professions. Knowledge of current pedagogical practices related to language learning. Experience with interdisciplinary approaches. Commitment to support and enhance high impact instructional practices (e.g., undergraduate research, internship, service learning, intercultural immersion, study abroad)

DUTIES: Teach the equivalent of 12 credits each semester based on program needs and in accordance with specialization; engage in research and scholarly activities; provide academic advising to students as assigned; contribute service to the department, University and profession.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Languages consists of 18 faculty and instructors.
