About this role

Fixed-term until 31 December 2026 | Part-time with 8 hours a week | Institute of Immunology

We are UKM. We have a clear social mission and, with our focus on healthcare, research, and teaching, we bear a unique responsibility.

To meet our high standards every day, we are looking forward to your scientific expertise in the Institute of Immunology – ideally with you on board!

RSEARCH PROJECT:

The student assistant will join the group of Prof. Noelia Alonso González (Institute of Immunology, Multiscale Imaging Center). You will assist in an innovative and interesting project to investigate efferocytosis by peritoneal macrophages during endometriosis, under the supervision of the postdoctoral researcher Irene Aranda Pardos. In our group, we are interested in the biology and functions of macrophages in inflammation and its resolution, for which processes such as efferocytosis are key. In this regard, we have identified organ-specific features in peritoneal macrophages that we want to further investigate in endometriosis scenarios. For this purpose, we have planned several approaches using an endometriosis mouse model, focusing on flow cytometry analysis of immune cell populations, confocal microscopy imaging of isolated tissues and endometrial lesions, and ex vivo and in vitro functionality studies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tissue preparation for flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry: different techniques for the generation of cell suspensions from murine tissues, as well as processing of tissues for imaging, with cutting, staining of tissue sections and confocal microscopy imaging
  • Ex vivo and in vitro assays to analyze efferocytosis by macrophages: obtain expertise on the isolation of murine primary cells and cell culture approaches to investigate cell-cell interactions
  • Assistance with flow cytometry and confocal imaging: visualization of the results from the abovementioned techniques, learning how to interpret and represent the data

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled student with an interest in biology, and immunology
  • Previous laboratory experience
  • Experience with cell and molecular biology techniques, as well as cell culture, will be highly valued
  • Good communication skills in English

WE OFFER:

  • Learning opportunity and active participation in the project, assisting in different areas and approaches, from mouse monitoring to tissue isolation and cell suspension analysis, to get an overview on how research projects evolve
  • Involvement in data analysis, representation and discussion
  • Flexible schedule when possible to meet academic obligations
  • 30 days of vacation per year, plus two additional days off on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve
  • A wide range of training and professional development opportunities
  • A respectful and appreciative work environment within a diverse team
  • Support and advisory services for health and work-life balance
  • Additional benefits such as sports programs, job ticket, company events, cafeteria, and emergency childcare

For inquiries, please contact: Irene Aranda Pardos, [email protected], 0251 83-35538
