Position Title:

Supervisor Transportation II

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

The role oversees the day-to-day operational activity to meet Univar Solutions’ transportation customer service and financial targets effectively and efficiently. The role is to be the main site point of contact for Transportation execution and implementation of activities led by the District Transportation Manager (DTM) and other Transportation regional and department strategy initiatives.

The Transportation Supervisor supervises the daily work and safety of drivers, including adherence to standard operating procedures, planning and/or scheduling routes, maintaining, and updating regulatory DOT, FMCSA, EHS, and other compliance requirements, and monitoring KPI metrics.

The role will act as a key site liaison to assist in implementing improvement projects, handling tactical carrier performance issues, and, most importantly, providing a safe and efficient work environment for a team responsible within a specified district for 55-80% of total company volume movement and a focused P&L of $3-7MM.

The Transportation Supervisor II collaborates with the other Branch Operations Supervisors, Branch Operations Manager, and District Transportation Planner to ensure seamless customer service by coordinating with Warehouse timely product carrier pick up or loading of fleet trucks when the product is ready for dispatch typically at a larger facility, or in a facility without a BOM; additionally the Transportation Supervisor II may have additional responsibilities with specialty operations.

• Accountable for the safe and efficient transportation operations within the Branch including but not limited to: Driver productivity, fleet maintenance, asset utilization, and regulatory compliance. 5% Private Fleet Operations

• Direct manager overseeing drivers and will be the main point of contact to ensure drivers are dispatched and return safely.

• Manages labor hours and consumable supplies within the forecast budget. 30%

• Prepares driver work schedules including extra workdays, overtime, and shift hours as needed.

• Monitors driver performance and ensures on-time service levels are met.

• Reviews delivery functions and productivity KPI reports to monitor and takes action on ways to improve dispatch routing or increase truck utilization.

• Ensures driver routes are optimized and driver workflow is efficient.

• Ability to work in a deadline-oriented atmosphere and provide a constant high level of customer service.

• Assist with the hiring process for new drivers • Ability to investigate and respond to customer complaints.

• May occasionally handle after-hour calls. 30% Environmental, Health, and Safety & Regulatory Compliance (DOT, Hour of Service, Training, Etc.)

• Interprets, trains, and consistently enforces Company policies, protocols, and procedures including but not limited to food safety, DOT, EHS, internal audit, record keeping, etc. • Ensures Driver compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (i.e., DOT, OSHA, etc.) and ensures that electronic logs are kept current and accurate.

• Coordinates efforts with the Safety department to aid in training, conducting associate observations, updating preferred work methods, conducting accident investigations to determine root causes, and routine safety inspections.

• Responsible for record keeping and driver credentials (HazMat, tanker endorsements, DOT physicals, Federal drug testing, etc.) are completed on time.

• Will work with DTM and other personnel if and when a safety spill or release has occurred at the customer site, enroute to delivery, or on-site 20%

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED: 

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, not required.

• 7+ years of supervisory leadership experience.

• Knowledgeable in DOT, FMCSA, and Hours of Service regulations.

• Experience managing and dispatching drivers.
