The Clinical Pathology Manager plays a vital role in the overall safety of the Clinical Pathology laboratory and is responsible for managing daily operations of the lab. The Clinical Pathology Manager takes responsibility for all aspects of the lab including instruments, equipment, personnel and supplies needed to ensure the lab operates efficiently and achieves established performance, quality and service levels.


Responsibilities

  • Plans, assigns, and directs workflow in the laboratory.
  • Mentors and supports direct reports (Clinical & Microbiology Supervisors) in their responsibilities and functions, ensuring they receive training in supervisory skill development. Develops and implements training programs as necessary.
  • Coordinates, and monitors quality assurance programs. Ensures quality control and compliance procedures are followed and QC reports are up to date. Oversee plans and preparations for inspections; ensures the departments maintain inspection readiness.
  • Oversees staffing of personnel in the Clinical Pathology laboratory. Effectively maintains quality staffing by interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring and providing staff development through performance evaluation and performance management.
  • Identifies future needs in terms of staff, equipment, and facilities. Submits appropriate documentation for procurement of such.
  • Reviews test performance, drives process and project management, prepares and submits required reports to meet established deadlines.
  • Establish and monitor departmental benchmarks, KPIs, productivity and error metrics; identify trends and implement corrective or improvement actions using Quality Management and Account Management metrics
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership to identify test needs and assist with developing validation/verification plans; ensures plans are executed and fully comply with regulatory guidelines.
  • Manages department costs and resources to adhere to budget.
  • Resolves problems through interaction with clients either through phone calls or other means of communication.
  • Aligns organizational goals and objectives with departmental expectations.
  • Oversee and support Supervisors with quality event investigations, root-cause analyses, specimen integrity reviews, and corrective action planning.

 

 


Qualifications

  • Candidate must have experience with clinical pathology and microbiology preferably in Women’s Health.
  • Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in medical technology, chemical or biological science.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of laboratory experience to include at least 5+ years of experience in managing a clinical pathology laboratory that includes microbiology preferred.
  • Current ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Microbiologist or equivalent.
  • The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities/projects.
  • Ability to brainstorm in a creative way – broad-minded, fast-thinker with a creative, marketing-led brain with an intuitive appreciation of the consumer journey
  • Strong customer orientation and ability to foster long term customer relationships.
  • Strong financial and data analytics acumen needed to support decision making processes
