About UMOM New Day Centers: Founded in 1964, UMOM is Arizona's largest provider of services for families experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to end family homelessness by restoring hope and rebuilding lives. With an annual operating budget of $20 million dollars, UMOM provides shelter, supportive services, and housing programs to families and individuals experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County. UMOM serves over 15,000 unique individuals across all our services annually, including those families receiving support at the Family Housing Hub, Maricopa County's family coordinated entry system.

Position Description: The Dishwasher-Utility is an entry-level position that maintains a clean kitchen, properly washes and sorts soiled dishes and supports the kitchen in general janitorial and organization duties. Keeps dish area free of clutter and organized. Sets up dish stations, including dish machines and sinks. Maintains clean and dry floors throughout the shift. This position receives direct supervision and guidance from the Residential Dining Manager. The Dishwasher-Utility position is a key role in an effectively run kitchen.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Loads, runs, and unloads dish machine.
  • Keeps the dish machine clean and reports any functional or mechanical problems immediately.
  • Monitors dish machine water temperature to ensure sanitary wash cycle.
  • Washes and stores all kitchenware in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Maintains, cleans, and organizes the washer and dryer.
  • Washes trash cans inside and out.
  • Bags and hauls dish room trash and boxes to dumpster at designed times.
  • Cleans and sanitizes utility carts.
  • Maintains adequate levels of dish detergents and cleaning supplies.
  • Cleans and organizes the employee area.
  • Sweeps and mops the back breeze way.
  • Flatten boxes and take them to the recycle bins.
  • Degreases, washes, and polishes all stainless steel as needed.
  • Washes, dries towels and mop heads.
  • Cleans mop buckets as needed.
  • Keeps a dry mop ready for all spills.
  • Sanitizes all hand washing sinks daily.
  • Cleans all drains as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Leadership.

Work Schedule: The typical schedule for this position is 5 days a week (10am - 6:30pm) with 2 consecutive days off. Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualification and Competency Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Six months dishwashing experience preferred

Compliance

  • Current Maricopa Food Handler's card or the ability to obtain one
  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one
  • Ability to clear the Central Registry Screening from the Department of Child Safety & Adult Protective Services.
  • Ability to comply with and pass all required background check and drug screening requirements, including but not limited to pre-employment and random drug screening as required/requested.
  • This position is classified as a safety sensitive position.

  • This position is very active and requires standing, moving, bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching all day. The duties of this job require regular exposure to kitchen conditions including heat, cold, humidity, wet, smoke, and loud noises.

Background Screens


This position requires the selected candidate to have the ability to obtain, maintain and possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC). If the selected candidate does not currently possess an FPCC, UMOM will cover the cost of obtaining a card.


In addition, all UMOM employees must pass a Central Registry Background Check (CBC) through the Department of Child Safety (DCS) and Adult Protective Services (APS).


Drug Screening


All new hires must successfully pass the required drug screening.
