About this role

Due to continued growth, UGL’s Manufacturing & Maintenance business is seeking skilled Vehicle Builders to join our Locomotive New Build team in Broadmeadow, Newcastle.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity on a 9-day fortnight schedule, offering day shifts from Monday to Thursday (5:30am – 2:30pm), with every second Friday off, and working 5:00am – 1:30pm on the Fridays you do work.

 

The Role:

In this role, you’ll report directly to the Service Delivery Manager, contributing to locomotive new builds by performing detailed internal and external fit-outs on Locomotives, and handling general workshop duties. Responsibilities include:

  • Cutting and installing flooring
  • Installing air ducting and acoustic insulation
  • Fitting roof and wall linings
  • Handling internal and external GRP panels
  • Installing windows and assembling doors
  • Sealing and backfilling with Sikaflex products

 

About You:

We’re looking for candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Australian trade certificate with a Certificate of Proficiency in Carpentry Joinery, Shop Fitting, Shipwright, or Vehicle Building
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Reliable and punctual with a commitment to safety
  • General rail or locomotive experience (desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to interpret schematics and production drawings
  • Capable of working autonomously and in a team
  • Customer-focused with a drive for quality work

• 2,386 route kilometres of operational passenger and freight rail lines, including 996 km of branch line track used predominantly for haulage of grain, with lower mass and speed limits than other parts of the network
• 3,139 route kilometres of non-operational lines
• 27,000 hectares of land and infrastructure
• 1,312 level crossings (300 active)
• 1,200 property assets (including 356 heritage sites)
• 600 rail under bridges and 384 road overbridges

The CRN is a crucial piece of infrastructure to regional NSW and UGL Regional Linx is committed to ensure that it delivers for all customers, from rail passengers to farmers and industry.
