About this role
Due to continued growth, UGL’s Manufacturing & Maintenance business is seeking skilled Vehicle Builders to join our Locomotive New Build team in Broadmeadow, Newcastle.
This is a full-time permanent opportunity on a 9-day fortnight schedule, offering day shifts from Monday to Thursday (5:30am – 2:30pm), with every second Friday off, and working 5:00am – 1:30pm on the Fridays you do work.
The Role:
In this role, you’ll report directly to the Service Delivery Manager, contributing to locomotive new builds by performing detailed internal and external fit-outs on Locomotives, and handling general workshop duties. Responsibilities include:
- Cutting and installing flooring
- Installing air ducting and acoustic insulation
- Fitting roof and wall linings
- Handling internal and external GRP panels
- Installing windows and assembling doors
- Sealing and backfilling with Sikaflex products
About You:
We’re looking for candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:
- Australian trade certificate with a Certificate of Proficiency in Carpentry Joinery, Shop Fitting, Shipwright, or Vehicle Building
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Reliable and punctual with a commitment to safety
- General rail or locomotive experience (desirable but not essential)
- Ability to interpret schematics and production drawings
- Capable of working autonomously and in a team
- Customer-focused with a drive for quality work

UGL Regional Linx was established in 2021, after parent company, UGL Limited was selected to deliver operations and maintenance of rail infrastructure for the Country Regional Network (CRN). This network ensures the safe movement of people and goods throughout the regions of NSW, and links Sydney with many important regional centres.
UGL Regional Linx commenced operations on January 30 2022 and works on behalf of the client, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and will be responsible for managing an important network of assets. As part of its operation, UGL Regional Linx’s scope of work includes:

• 1,312 level crossings (300 active)

• 600 rail under bridges and 384 road overbridges

What you'll do
- The Vehicle Builder will contribute to locomotive new builds by performing detailed internal and external fit-outs on locomotives and handling general workshop duties. Key tasks include cutting and installing flooring, installing air ducting, and fitting roof and wall linings.
