SUMMARY:
This position provides Safety leadership and strategic direction by driving continuous improvement efforts in plant safety. As a key member of the Plant Management Team, the role supports and advises site management on the Safety Management System. Responsibilities include developing and implementing a proactive local safety strategy that promotes sustainable, healthy, and safe operations. The position contributes to shaping a safety vision focused on continuous enhancement of existing programs and consistent adoption of new initiatives within a collaborative team environment. It plays a critical role in preventing, eliminating, or reducing safety, health, and medical incidents.
This role also fosters the development and maintenance of safety behaviors, attitudes, and culture aligned with Tyson Foods’ goals. Acting as a change agent, it accelerates the sharing of best practices within the facility. Additional duties include directing site safety programs, recommending and implementing new initiatives to minimize accident-related losses, and measuring program effectiveness. The position leads compliance with OSHA regulations and Tyson Foods’ Ergonomic program, conducts inspections of machinery, equipment, and working conditions, and maintains OSHA documentation.
Other responsibilities include accompanying OSHA inspectors during plant inspections, regularly reviewing plant operations for compliance with permits and regulations, reporting potential violations with corrective recommendations, and analyzing accident data to identify safety improvements. The role communicates safety policy updates to management and ensures all health and safety policies and procedures are reviewed annually or as required by regulatory changes and promptly implemented.
The position conducts safety inspections and procedural audits in the field, with the authority to take immediate corrective action when necessary. It reviews safety areas to assess policies, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and provide training on topics such as ergonomics, emergency response, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment. The role investigates all safety-related incidents, reviews reports, and completes necessary documentation for insurance, risk management, and corporate safety offices.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in environmental, safety, and sustainability management preferred. Strong knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA standards, hazard communication, accident investigation, and safety training methods. Familiarity with industry best practices including PSM (Process Safety Management) and RMP (Risk Management Program) safety practices is highly desirable.
Computer Skills: Proficient with standard computer applications.
Communication Skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Special Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Strong writing skills are preferred.
