The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. This position is available for Morning, Evening and Night shifts.

 

The Clerk II / Switchboard Operator for the Denton State Supported Living Center uses (VOIP) Voiceover Internet Protocol switchboard. Operates the switchboard and connect callers to the appropriate person. Uses a band mobile radio. Relay and route written and verbal messages. Monitor alarm systems in order to ensure that secure conditions are maintained. Contact security staff members when necessary, using radio-telephones. Use of personal computers and software applications in a windows environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

 

Meets and Greets visitors and announce when visitors arrive. The Switchboard Operator is capable of handling high volume of calls on a multi-line phone system. The Switchboard Operator answer and place calls fast pace environment and relay important information. Switchboard Operator handles outgoing, interoffice or incoming calls. The external calls placed may be local and/or long distance.

 

The Switchboard Operator Communicates with facility personnel including Transportation, Security, Maintenance and Campus Administration by band mobile radios. The Switchboard acts as the Command Center for communicating information and relaying emergency information/instructions campus wide. Monitors and responds to signals received from fire annunciator panel. Exhibits a thorough knowledge of facility emergency departmental procedures and is able to form proper interpretation and communicate instructions. Works under moderate supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Rotating schedules are common in healthcare and is required for this position.

 

Perform receptionist functions as needed. Maintain professionalism at all times. Inform the supervisor of any unusual calls and unusual behavior by visitors. May handle petty cash. May be required to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays with short notice. A flexible work schedule and overtime may be required. Flexibility and adaptability is required for the job.

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Assist with the reservation of state vehicles.

 

Keeping a tidy and safe workstation at all times.

 

Able to follow all HHSC policies and regulations as well as Denton State Supported Living Centers guidelines and procedures.

 

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

 

Knowledge of administrative, clerical, and data entry procedures and systems.

 

Skill in the use of a telephone switchboard.

 

Ability to transfer incoming calls to appropriate personnel; to greet and direct visitors; and to communicate effectively.

 

Skill in use of personal computers and software applications in a windows environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

 

Ability remain calm in a crisis or emergency situation.

 

Ability to work a rotating schedule and the ability to demonstrate flexibility as needed.

 

Skill in use of (VOIP) Voiceover Internet Protocol switchboard.

 

Ability to handle and safeguard sensitive and confidential information.

 

Ability to work independently and to exercise judgment in making administrative and technical decisions.

 

Ability to use a band mobile radio.

 

Ability to develop/implement administrative procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness; and to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Initial Screening Criteria:

 

Two years' experience in operating a switchboard/receptionist, clerical, or data entry work.

 

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year for year basis. 

 

Additional Information:

 

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

 

Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

 

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.

 

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
