Job Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for assuring the safety of pool patrons by monitoring swimming activities, performing lifesaving procedures and enforcing pool rules and regulations, policies and procedures by performing the following duties.

Job Description

All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

           

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  •  Ensures the safety of customers at Pool facility by visually scanning all areas of the facility, enforcing the rules, policies and procedures and determines whether customers are in distress to ensure and prevent accidents in or around the pool.
  • Provide excellent frontline customer service to pool patrons including front desk duties of registration members, point of sale operation and other front desk procedures.
  •  Must be able to work with children, parents, and visitors tactfully and courteously.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with children, parents, visitors, lifeguards, staff professionally and courteously.
  • Ensures the sanitization of aquatic facilities by disinfecting bathrooms with appropriate cleaners, sweeping and mopping floors, picking up debris from pool deck and patrons' area and after rentals.
  • Maintains pool operations and equipment by vacuuming the pool, scrubbing the pool and equipment plus pool deck and walls to ensure clean area free of debris.
  • Ensures the Aquatic Facility is ready for normal daily use including pump room, supplies stocked, performing safety checks.
  •  Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of pool vicinity including but not limited decks, walls, windows, equipment, and locker room.
  •  Provide positive customer service approach towards public and patrons including staff without compromising pool surveillance.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date administrative records including attendance, cash register, programs, clean logs and equipment.
  • Staff will be performing in-water rescues and assists when necessary, providing first aid to customers when appropriate and completing CPR for rescued customers when necessary.
  • Responsible for scheduled work hours.  Must arrive to work on time and must be able to work any shift scheduled which includes rentals. Notify Activities Coordinator of schedule changes and unable to work a shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Skilled in pool safety practices, procedures, rules and regulations; and in administering first aid and CPR.

Knowledge of practices, procedures, and techniques of rescuing swimmers from accidents and emergency situations; and of lifesaving equipment.

Ability to foresee dangerous situations and react promptly and effectively to the situation; and to communicate with employees and patrons.     

Attend monthly in-service training sessions prior to season plus during the summer.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.                                            

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE      

Attending or graduation from a four-year high school or GED, and previous life guarding at a public swimming pool desired. Must be at least sixteen years of age or older.                                         

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups and customers or employees or organizations.                                                    

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw logical conclusions and interpret bar graphs.                                                       

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.                                             

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS

Must have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid, or equivalent certification from a nationally recognized aquatic safety organization. Must pass a criminal background check and a skills proficiency test.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Employee is frequently subject to chemicals used in pool operations. The noise level is usually moderate.
