Licensing Specialist

Department: Legal (Compliance)

Reports to: Licensing Manager

Location: Tallahassee, FL onsite

 

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Licensing Specialist assists the Licensing Manager in maintaining the company’s local licenses and state cannabis related licenses, as needed. The License Specialist’s core functions are managing the production of application packages reflecting local license renewals and new applications, employee licensing, payment coordination, regulatory research and more. The Licensing Specialist coordinates the activities of internal and external parties to ensure timely completion of complex, deadline-based cannabis and non-cannabis licensing projects; as well as projects with new business, which includes acquiring local permits, researching local regulations for event permits, ongoing licensing auditing with site leadership, and more.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Badge and renew badging for internal and third-party employees nationally as needed by performing audits to maintain renewal dates and collaborating with the employee to collect the data needed to submit the badge application and run the background checks required by state regulations
  • Assist the Licensing Manager with licensing projects nationwide and day-to-day department activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to gather information needed for timely submission of business license renewals and applications
  • Assist with research of regulatory requirements related to licensing compliance for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Request and process approval and payments for license applications from leadership, renewals and employee badging through paper and electronic systems.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of licenses, renewals, and other relevant information. 
  • Assist with completion of requests by regulatory authorities for additional information, such as annual reporting, organizational documentation, and key person disclosures
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness by finding creative ways to complete assigned tasks or overcome challenges using the tools that are presently available.
  • Assists with project management and task management as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in social sciences, humanities, business, or similar field
  • 2+ years of state cannabis licensing experience with a track record of success
  • 2+ years of experience reading and interpreting cannabis laws and regulations
  • Prior law firm and/or cannabis consultant experience is preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of cannabis markets and cannabis business operations
  • Able to read, understand, and analyze laws, regulations, application requirements, and other materials
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Proven ability to effectively manage priorities across projects and meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and in a dynamic, fast-paced small team environment
  • Clear, concise, and professional communication in written and verbal formats; able to communicate across organizational levels
  • Self-starter with a “can do” attitude
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Adobe

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (e.g., at a desk), often sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another.
  • Must be able to repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers (e.g., typing).
  • Must have visual acuity with/without job aids to perform activities such as reading, viewing a computer terminal, visual inspection involving small parts/details. Clarity of vision at 20 ft or more in day and night/dark conditions.
  • Must be able to spend long hours in front of a computer screen.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • 40+ hours weekly with flexible hours depending on department needs. Must be available to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet deadlines

Salary will be commensurate with experience.   A comprehensive benefits package including paid time off is offered with this position. This position will work an average of 40 hours per week and will be available “after hours” if an emergency situation should arise.
