POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the direction and immediate supervision of the Program Director/Team Leader, The Substance Use Specialist provides substance use counseling and education within the Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) framework.
Salary: $45,000-$54,000
Shift: Monday-Friday, 3 weekdays and 2 evenings
Location: Joliet, IL

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides substance use counseling and education within the CSC framework
- Educates participants on the relationship between substance use and psychotic symptoms
- Promotes insight into recovery needs
- Supports the development of healthier coping strategies
- Participates in weekly Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) team meetings
- Collaborates with other clinicians to align care plans
- Attends monthly DHS CBT-p learning collaboratives
- Assist participants in identifying personal goals, building coping skills, and strengthening problem-solving abilities
- Conduct intake assessments and engage individuals and families in services.
- Facilitate timely and coordinated transitions from hospital discharge or crisis stabilization to outpatient care.
- Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Maintains service records, database, and statistics.
- Ensure that all documentation and communications align with Trinity Services’ mission, values, and operational needs.
- Completes daily paperwork and data collection notes in a detailed, accurate, consistent and timely manner
- Handle all confidential information in a professional and secure manner.
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of the techniques and principles substance use counseling and education
- Demonstrated knowledge of correct procedures for Medicaid billing
- Strong communication, leadership, and counseling skills.
- Ability to independently diagnose using the DSM 5.
- Strong command of treating people with substance use disorders
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment
- Physical activities that could be used include: pulling, pushing, standing, grasping, stooping, crouching, reaching, lifting, and repetitive motion.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Master’s Degree in psychology, counseling, social work or related field with clinical License (LCPC, LCSW, LMFT) preferred or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC).
- This position may be filled by a bachelor’s-level clinician with at least two years of substance use treatment experience or by a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC).
- Completion of Quality Behavior Solutions (QBS) Safety Care training, CPR, and First aid (upon hire).
