Job Title: GNSS Test Engineer (m/f/d)
Location: Höhenkirchen near Munich
Division: Field Systems
About Trimble
Trimble is a globally recognized technology company that specializes in providing advanced solutions for positioning, mapping, and navigation. With a rich history spanning over four decades, Trimble has become a pioneer in the field of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology. By leveraging precise satellite positioning and advanced data integration, Trimble empowers industries across the globe with accurate, reliable, and efficient positioning solutions.
As a GNSS Test Engineer in our Quality Assurance team at Trimble, you will work with Trimble GNSS receivers and technologies, ensuring their positioning accuracy and performance meet specified requirements. You will collaborate with engineering teams from different business sectors, including surveying, construction, agriculture and automotive, and use Trimble products targeted for these areas in your daily work. You will actively participate in the firmware release validation process, executing, expanding, and critically challenging test plans to ensure robust coverage beyond standard regression. To achieve this, you will use existing testing infrastructure and work on its further development and automatization. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the quality and accuracy of our GNSS receivers and applications, which are integral to the success of our products and services.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive static, kinematic and field testing of Trimble GNSS receivers across various sectors (surveying, construction, agriculture, OEM), with a primary focus on the accuracy and performance of the GNSS positioning engine.
Drive the FW release validation process: execute, expand, and critically challenge test plans to ensure robust coverage beyond standard regression.
Analyze test data, generate “Ground Truth” and produce plots, statistics, and reports to assess GNSS receiver performance.
Develop tools and monitoring solutions to automate and enhance the testing processes.
Work with Trimble proprietary tools, designed for validation of GNSS data and receivers performance.
Manage and maintain the GNSS Lab, test van and local CORS infrastructure, including RF distribution and network connectivity.
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers.
Qualifications:
Education: Degree in Geomatics, Surveying, or a related technical field.
Experience: 2+ years of experience working in a surveying company, a GNSS equipment manufacturer or similar.
Surveying Expertise: Practical, hands-on experience with daily surveying workflows, including Total Station operation and establishing Geodetic Control Networks.
GNSS Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of Reference Systems, Datums, and precise positioning techniques (RTK, VRS, PPP, Post-Processing).
Hardware Aptitude: Comfortable managing hardware in a lab (cabling, RF distribution) and maintaining field equipment (QA Van, rooftop antennas).
QA Mindset: Ability to create new test strategies and critically challenge existing test plans. Ability to create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including lab setup guides, network diagrams, and result reports.
IT & Networking: Solid understanding of basic networking (IP configuration), firewalling and file transfer protocols (FTP, SFTP). Familiarity with Linux is a plus.
Scripting & Tools: Basic knowledge of Python (or similar) and data analysis tools. Willingness to learn and use AI-assisted coding tools for automation is required.
Soft Skills: Ability to work effectively as part of an engineering team with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
We offer:
The thrilling opportunity to join our innovation driven R&D team focused on developing new software positioning products.
A happy work culture in an international team of experts with more than 100 colleagues from 30 countries and six continents.
Hybrid job profile and flexible working hours.
