The Emergency & Urgent Care Program strives to exemplify excellence in emergency medicine to serve the patients in our community. As a program, we aspire to provide compassionate, high quality care within our collaborative and interprofessional environment, with a focus on an inclusiveness and accessibility. Our Emergency Department (ED) is dedicated to high quality patient and staff experience, patient safety and best possible outcomes. The Emergency Department (ED) at Credit Valley Hospital is a very high volume ED and receives approximately 300 visits per day from all ages and socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Our specialities include Paediatrics, Oncology and Hemodialysis. We work with a very large interprofessional team including nursing, allied health, physicians, clerical staff, corporate services, spiritual care, and many others. We care passionately about our patients but also invests in our people and growth. The manager of Credit Valley Hospital is Jacqueline Rodricks who can be found here https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacqueline-rodrick  .

Key Qualifications:

Here's what you'lI get to do...

  • Work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team to assess and treat a wide variety of patients and their health emergencies.

  • Provide care to sick or injured patients when they enter the emergency department as part of the interdisciplinary team

  • Provide emergency care and collaborate with Doctors/Nurse Practitioners to determine which medications or treatment plan a patient may need using established medical directives

  • Assess patients, monitor vital signs, prepare and participate in patient treatment and procedures and complete other ED nursing duties and responsibilities

  • Use your critical thinking and high level assessment skills to assess and treat patients

  • Liaise between patients, families, other members of health care team, and community partners

  • Participate in quality improvement processes, counsels and committees for the ED

  • Contribute to the development and update of clinic references and policies and procedures

  • Maintain clinical competence and knowledge base through continued education and lifelong learning

Here's what you need...

  • Baccalaureate degree and/or Diploma in Nursing

  • Previous experience working in an emergency department and or urgent care setting required

  • Must have at least 6 months experience in med surg or similar

  • Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize your critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork abilities

  • Demonstrated team player who can also be self-directed and work independently

  • Positive attitude and ability to work in a team

  • Compassion and kindness

  • Previous Emergency Department or med/surg experience an asset

  • Continuous education courses considered an asset, such as: patient assessment course, cardiology courses, critical care and/or emergency courses, ACLS/PALS

  • Reliable and flexible individual to work as part of a diverse work team.

  • Positive work record essential
