What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers Software Engineering team enables a seamless customer experience through technology solutions. Do you have experience with Hyperexponential's hx Renew, or a similar Insurance Pricing, Ratings, Actuarial or Underwriting Platforms? If so, apply to join our London-based team today!

As a Software Engineer II you will play a critical role in growing and transforming our Technology landscape by completing advanced end-to-end engineering tasks while providing technical guidance and mentorship to other team members.

In this role, you will primarily support the hx Renew platform, Hyperexponential’s pricing decision intelligence platform, whilst also providing ongoing support to the existing Sequel Ratings system as it is decommissioned. You will leverage your consulting skills and problem solving ability to lead interactions between various systems and technical teams to solve our most challenging business solutions while defining technical requirements and coordinating team resources.

Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.

What Will You Do?

  • Consult with users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications, manage interaction between the systems and other technical support areas, and define technical requirements and coordinate team resources to solve problems.
  • Guide the team to tackle problems at differentiating levels of complexity.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on complex engineering solutions while fostering a team environment.
  • Design, develop, analyze, configure by defining technical requirements, test, debug, troubleshoot, document, health monitor/alert, and implement software based on user or system specifications.
  • Collaborate with a robust team of engineers to sharpen your skills, learn various emerging technologies while working on key business initiatives.
  • Research and apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions for software engineering problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Ideally have experience with Hyperexponential's hx Renew, or similar Insurance Pricing, Ratings, Actuarial or Underwriting Platforms.
  • Considerable programming/development experience.

  • PYTHON:

  • Programming/development experience in relation to pricing and insurance.

  • .NET:

  • Programming/development experience focused on .NET and/or .NET core concepts and design patterns with working knowledge of:
  • web service technologies such as REST, or JSON; automated unit, UI, and End-to-End tests such as NUnit, Mocha, Jasmine, Jest or Selenium; and DevOps, CI/CD, and configuration management tools.

  • The ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace to achieve commitments, deliver complete solutions but release them in small batches, and identify and negotiate important trade-offs.
  • Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to understand technical concepts and industry trends, and possess in-depth knowledge of immediate systems worked on and some knowledge of adjacent systems.
  • Strong problem solver who ensures systems are built with longevity and creates innovative ways to resolve issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate well with team members and business partners.
  • Ability to lead team members and help create a safe environment for others to learn and grow as engineers.

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in work experience.
  • Strong programming/development experience.
