In this role, you'll:

Join the Contract & Corridor Management Team, of the Prioritisation & Asset Management Branch Division that Drives strategic assessment and challenge to facilitate decision making for the prioritisation of customer and asset priorities through robust portfolio performance and investment oversight. Acts as Transport’s Asset Custodian and technical authority that drives asset management, innovation, optimisation and asset outcomes for whole of life transport asset portfolio.

Reporting to the Director Contract & Corridor Management, you will lead the safe, reliable and cost‑effective performance of significant rail infrastructure assets, providing engineering and commercial oversight across maintenance programs delivered by third‑party service providers. You will also manage service provider performance and asset strategy for non-operational assets, including building and facilities.

Partner at a senior executive level to set and assure asset maintenance strategy, balancing short‑term operational priorities with long‑term asset sustainability, whole‑of‑life outcomes and value for money for the people of NSW.

Hold service providers to account through strong contract management, commercial discipline and technical assurance - ensuring estimators, contractors and asset managers deliver demonstrable value, continuous improvement and compliant outcomes.

Guide high‑performing engineering and project teams while influencing across Transport for NSW to embed robust asset data, assurance, safety and governance aligned with rail operations and passenger safety obligations.

This is a full-time Ongoing (Perm) Transport Senior Service Manager TSSM level role.

About you 

• Senior engineering or asset leader with deep experience in complex rail infrastructure environments.
• Solid understanding of rail network operations and infrastructure management, including previous experience with technical systems and equipment such as rolling stock, aircraft, marine, defense or similar.
• Highly developed knowledge of asset management and engineering systems and a proven capacity to oversee the development and implementation of engineering standards in asset management.
• Proven ability to extract value for money through estimator challenge, cost assurance and commercial decision‑making.
• Well-developed contract management and supplier performance management skills, including experience in managing third‑party delivery and asset management models for large, safety‑critical assets.
• Strategic thinker able to align immediate operational needs with long‑term asset, safety and investment strategies.
• Proven experience managing engineering and project teams and delivering complex, high-value programs of work.
• Credible advisor to executives, with the presence to influence, negotiate and balance commercial, community and operational priorities.
• Motivated by shaping outcomes at system level and leaving a legacy of safer, more sustainable infrastructure.
• Values‑led leader aligned to public sector purpose, stewardship and accountability.
