In this role, you'll:

You will take accountability for the long-term safety, reliability, and lifecycle performance of Transport for NSW’s ferry fleets and supporting maritime infrastructure.

 

At Transport for NSW, you will shape asset strategies, lead technical assurance, and oversee delivery against approved Asset & Services Plans (ASPs), ensuring regulatory compliance, value for money, and sustainable network performance.


 
You will work at the system and portfolio level, setting direction and assurance expectations for operators and maintainers and perform targeted site engagement to support assurance, risk understanding, and informed asset decision-making.

 

Every decision you make reflects precision and purpose, balancing the bigger picture with attention to detail so that communities stay connected, and ferries remain dependable.


 
Your day-to-day will involve:

 

  • Developing and delivering asset strategies for ferries and supporting infrastructure that optimise safety, reliability, capacity, and whole-of-life cost outcomes. 

 

  • Managing technical assurance frameworks and ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, accreditation requirements, engineering standards, and Chief Engineer directives 

 

  • Set assurance expectations for maintenance activities, reviewing technical specifications, performance standards, and outcomes

 

  • Tackling technical and operational challenges head on keeping vessels in service and projects on schedule.

 

  • Working closely with operators, engineers, and suppliers to align priorities and deliver robust asset plans, holding them accountable for performance while maintaining clear asset owner governance.

 

  • Monitoring supplier performance and driving continuous improvement across maintenance and lifecycle planning.

 

  • Spending time on-site inspecting vessels, engaging with shipyards, and understanding real-world conditions. 

 

This is a hands-on role where your decisions will directly influence the safety and performance of NSW’s ferry network.

About you

 


You’re a strategic asset management professional who understands how to govern complex, regulated asset environments through clear frameworks, assurance, and evidence-based decision-making.

 

You’re confident engaging with maritime engineers, operators, and suppliers, and you know how to keep complex systems running smoothly.


 
You bring:

  • Engineering qualifications 

 

  • Experience in asset management, asset owner roles, or technical assurance, ideally within maritime or ferry environments. 

 

  • Strong knowledge of technical assurance frameworks, regulatory compliance, engineering governance, and maritime standards. 

 

  • Skills in stakeholder engagement, planning, problem-solving, and contract management.

 

  • Experience working with outsourced operators and maintainers, with the ability to hold suppliers to account through performance, assurance, and contract mechanisms

 

  • The ability to translate technical complexity into clear asset strategies and executive level advice. 

 

  • A proactive mindset with the ability to work autonomously and suggest innovative solutions.

 

  • A lifecycle mindset focused on risk, performance, sustainability, and value
