This Engineer will be responsible for performing all design aspects required to complete the design of a distribution line in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all the policies and procedures, such as safety, environmental, quality assurance, and quality control. In addition, the engineer needs a wide understanding of overhead line and pole design to model, identify, and solve system issues requiring remediation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform all functions relating to overhead design in the distribution and communication spaces
Design cable routes and develop physical layouts including height, spacing, and location parameters
Perform analysis and design make ready for existing system upgrades and system hardening
Develop assembly methods and material lists
Performs detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction and installation standards and specifications
Produces complete PLS-CADD based designs for existing and proposed facilities
Acquire, review, and submit federal, state, and local permits as necessary
Adhere to client specific electrical distribution standards, procedures, and requirements
Apply correct design standards, codes, and requirements
Coordinate underground and overhead design for relocates
Identify and verify existing underground and overhead utilities
Visit job sites, client offices, municipalities and other agencies as needed
Qualifications
BSCE or BSEE from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required
1-3+ years of experience in distribution line design
EIT Certification
Solid working knowledge of the PLS-CADD suite of design software tools and well versed in the design of wood structures is preferred but not required
Proficiency in writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations
Ability to prepare procurement packages for engineered steel poles and review applicable vendor calculations and drawings
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
