The Company

Torn Banner Studios is a Toronto, Canada-based independent game development studio founded in 2010. We first made our mark with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, a multi-million copy selling title that redefined melee combat in gaming. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and innovate, releasing Chivalry 2 and, most recently, No More Room in Hell 2, currently in Early Access. Today, our team of around 100 developers is dedicated to creating unique, challenging, and fun gaming experiences.


The Role

Torn Banner is offering a paid 4-month internship for the summer of 2026 (approximately May to August) for students of Ontario Colleges and Universities. To be eligible, applicants must be current students at an Ontario college or University, physically located in Ontario, and legally eligible to work in Ontario.

Please note: this role can be carried out in-person at our office in Toronto, in a hybrid model, or fully remote (from within Ontario).


Responsibilities

  • Develop visual concepts and illustrations for characters, environments, props, and other in-game assets.
  • Create high-quality, visually engaging 2D concept art that aligns with the game's overall artistic vision and style.
  • Iterate ideas and designs based on feedback from the team to achieve the best possible results.
  • Participate in brainstorming and concept development sessions, contributing fresh ideas and innovative approaches.
  • Ensure that all concept art is delivered on time and meets the project's quality standards.
  • Work closely with the 3D modeling team to provide paintover guidance and support during the asset creation process.

Requirements

  • A portfolio of work showcasing your proficiency in creating high-quality concept art for characters, environments, and props. 
  • Solid understanding of fundamental art principles, including composition, perspective, color theory, lighting, architecture, and anatomy.
  • Strong traditional drawing/ painting skills with digital 2D painting and 3D software (e.g. 3DS Max, Blender, Unreal)
  • Ability to adapt to different artistic styles and adapt your work to fit the project's visual direction.
  • Experience creating concept art for a video game project or another relevant project (school projects are acceptable for experience)
  • Knowledge of game environment and character development processes.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • A high degree of self-motivation and initiative-taking.
  • Passion for video games and a deep appreciation for their visual storytelling potential.


Bonuses

  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4/5, Maya, 3Ds Max, or Blender, Z Brush, and Adobe Substance Suite.
  • Experience developing video games.


Compensation

  • This is a paid internship, the rate for which is $18/hour. The role is full time at 35 hours a week and the duration of the position is 4 months, running approximately from May to August.
  • Candidates must be current students at an Ontario college or University, physically located in Ontario, and legally eligible to work in Ontario.
