About this role

As a Manufacturing Designer, you will work with the production team to develop jigs, fixtures, tools, material handling devices and processes to aid in the manufacturing of heavy-duty forestry machines. The successful candidate will liaise with Product Designers, Materials Coordinators, Quality Control, and Manufacturing Personnel in a coordinated effort to improve quality and reduce manufacturing costs through process improvements that utilize lean manufacturing principles. 

 

Location: 1556 Industrial Road, Cambridge, ON

Dedicated Day Shift: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday

 

Job Duties

 

  • Work with engineering, production, purchasing, and service departments to improve the quality of Tigercat products  
  • Coordinate and implement quality control objectives, activities, and procedures to resolve production problems, maximize reliability, and minimize costs  
  • Design fixtures, tools, and material-handling devices  
  • Manage projects for quality improvements and lean manufacturing  
  • Design layouts of equipment, materials, and workspaces to illustrate maximum efficiency  
  • Recommend methods for improving the utilization of personnel, materials, and utilities  
  • Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and quality and production standards 
  • Work within design parameters to determine manufacturing processes, including sourcing appropriate capital equipment
  • Create, interpret, and analyze quality and materials reports

 

Skills and Experience  

 

  • Must be able to adapt to a changing work environment, handle competing demands, and able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events  
  • Good organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal)  
  • Comprehensive understanding of drawings, specifications, geometric dimensioning, and tolerancing  
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance  
  • Relevant experience with tooling and fixturing, calculations, and PSRs

 

Qualifications

 

  • Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment creating plant layouts, planning equipment installations and designing tools and fixturing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks
