Overview

We are seeking a Senior Energy Manager to manage electricity procurement and usage analysis for our data center portfolio across both regulated and deregulated power markets. Reporting within the Finance organization, this role will partner closely with Data Center Operations to align energy strategy with operational needs. The Energy Manager will combine leadership skills, advanced analytical abilities, and industry expertise to optimize energy spend, ensure reliability, and support sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities

Energy Procurement & Strategy

    • Partner with our external broker/advisor to evaluate, negotiate, and manage electricity supply contracts in deregulated markets.
    • Manage utility relationships and tariff compliance for regulated markets.
    • Provide financial and strategic leadership on energy planning decisions, ensuring alignment with budget and operational goals

Data Analysis & Reporting

    • Analyze energy consumption, demand charges, and market trends to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
    • Create and maintain robust models, forecasts, and dashboards to inform procurement decisions and financial reporting.
    • Present insights and recommendations to senior Finance and Operations leaders in a clear, data-driven manner.
    • Audit, research and troubleshoot utility/supplier billing errors and data discrepancies, with support from Accounting and our external Utility Bill Management provider.
    • Support the monthly client billing process by assisting with the calculation of usage and rates for metered (usage-based) power, power overages and power surcharges.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Leadership

    • In collaboration with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and Data Center Operations teams, develop and manage annual energy budgets and periodic forecasting exercises, by Data Center and Region.
    • Perform monthly variance analysis and actionable insights to highlight and explain budget variances related to usage, density, efficiency and rates across each Data Center.
    • Lead cross-functional energy discussions, collaborating with Data Center Operations, Sustainability, and Finance teams.
    • Offer mentorship or guidance to colleagues on energy data analysis and market dynamics.

Market & Regulatory Intelligence

    • Monitor and interpret developments in PJM, ERCOT, ISONE, and NYISO markets.
    • Advise leadership on risk mitigation strategies for regulatory and market changes.

Sustainability Committee Participation

    • Serve as a key member of the Sustainability Committee, contributing to renewable energy and carbon-reduction initiatives.
    • Collaborate with Data Center Operations to evaluate and manage Demand Response programs, considering both operational and financial impacts including Rebate management.
    • Integrate sustainability considerations into energy procurement and long-term planning.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Energy Management, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in electricity markets or energy management, with exposure to regulated and deregulated environments.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to influence decisions across Finance and Operations teams.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities, with advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with Power BI.
  • Experience collaborating with external brokers/advisors on procurement strategies.
  • Knowledge of PJM, ERCOT, ISONE, and NYISO markets preferred.
  • Experience or familiarity with sustainability and renewable energy initiatives.

 Preferred Experience

  • Strong communicator who can bridge Finance and Operations perspectives.
  • Comfortable managing complex datasets and presenting clear insights to executives.
  • Proactive, organized, and detail-oriented, with a passion for energy optimization and sustainability.
  • Prior experience particularly in the data center industry

 Working Conditions

  • Remote or Office environment - local to St. Louis, MO is preferred region (not required)

We provide a compensation range for roles that may be hired in locations with pay transparency law requirements. It’s important to note the pay range may be narrower than displayed, as various factors are used to determine the offered compensation package including skill set, level of experience, geographic locations, and other relevant factors- i.e. budgetary requirements.Pay Range $111,716.54 - $167,574.81
