Summary :

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works within state regulatory guidelines to perform nuclear medicine procedures under the supervision of the radiologist, cardiologist, and/or radiation oncologist.

Job Description:

SCHEDULE:
Hours of operation:
8-hour coverage 
Workdays: Monday - Thursday
Work Hours: 6:30am - 3:00pm
Weekend Call: No Call
Weekend/Holiday Rotation: No

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Understands and applies state regulatory requirements related to the handling, administration, and storage of radiopharmaceuticals to protect team members and patients from unnecessary radiation exposure.

  • Performs ordered examinations (including therapies) of appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the individual site reading physician.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to perform planar, SPECT (single-photon emission computerized tomography), and dynamic nuclear medicine imaging on a variety of equipment to create the best possible images of specific areas of the body.

  • Under the supervision of a provider, demonstrates knowledge and skills needed to perform nuclear medicine procedures per protocol, and adjusts techniques according to patient needs.

  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, nursing, and team members to provide the best care to our patients.

  • Shows competency in intravenous access and administration of radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with established protocols while using aseptic technique.

  • Completes documentation on time and accurately in accordance with department policy/procedure, including proper image management and accurate documentation in electronic medical record.

  • Applies critical thinking skills and maintains order accuracy when triaging and prioritizing patients.

  • Practices safety at all times, which includes adhering to ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principles for proper radiation safety for self and patients, using mobilization and immobilization devices, following safe patient handling practices, following infection prevention practices (proper personal protective equipment), and following hand hygiene to comply with all government agencies or other regulatory bodies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board) Technologist or ARRT(N) (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, Nuclear Medicine Technology)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance

  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments

  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock

  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents

  • Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients

  • Use of computers throughout the work day

  • Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers
