Summary :

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist independently performs electroneurodiagnostic procedures in accordance with technical standards set forth by ASET, The Neurodiagnostic Society, including electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), and evoked potentials (EP). Collects and analyzes data. Performs technical interpretation of data and relates findings to physicians and/or neurophysiologist. Participates in clinical investigative or research activities as appropriate, and participates in continuous improvement activities. Mentors technologists and other team members as needed.

Job Description:

Schedule: Thursday through Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Performs tests and clinical interventions in areas of electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), and evoked potentials (EP) in a 24-hour hospital setting.

  • Assists physicians in the diagnosis of diseases and disorders of the brain and central/peripheral nervous system through the provision of neurodiagnostic testing.

  • Recognizes artifact, documents, and eliminates or takes proper measures to monitor the artifact.

  • Performs day-to-day functions such as reviewing schedules, billing for services, and phone coverage.

  • Explains testing procedures to patients, answers questions or reassures patients as needed, and accurately observes, records, and reports patient concerns, symptoms, and reactions in a timely manner.

  • Maintains and troubleshoots multiple neurodiagnostic machines and equipment.

  • Assists in the instruction and hands-on technical training of neurodiagnostic technologists and students on the principles of neurodiagnostic procedures and equipment operation.

  • Ensures proper document flow and storage according to established departmental guidelines.

  • If pathway is to become a neurodiagnostic technologist II, then hands-on IONM education is continued.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in electroneurodiagnostic technology, AAS, from a CAAHEP accredited program

  • 300 clinical hours of work experience within the neurodiagnostic field • Registered in EEG (R. EEG.T) within one year of employment

  • Registered Evoked Potential Technologist, R.EP.T, within three years of employment/ becoming a Neurodiagnostic Technologist

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance

  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Climate controlled clinical setting with daily movement throughout the facility

  • Interaction with department members and other healthcare providers
