Patient Services Representative - Full-Time - Elgin, IL

$18-$20 per Hour

Working under general supervision, performs general medical office functions including but not limited to communicating with patients in a friendly and courteous manner. Excellent customer service and empathy is a must. 

 


Responsibilities

Answers incoming calls and asks appropriate questions to assess patients’ needs. Taking efficient messages with proper information. Obtains, receives and documents accurate and thorough information when taking messages or redirects calls appropriately. Schedules appointments as applicable.
• Works closely with clinical staff.
• Establish good communication with other departments, team members, other physician offices, hospitals, or patients in response to requests for information, follow up, or problem solving as needed.
• Ensures all insurance, demographic and eligibility information is in the system.
• Schedule appointments for the infusion room.
• Order entry as ordered by MD.
• Submits electronic tasks for pre-authorization of services and/or referrals.
• Schedules new treatments as directed by supervisor.
• Provides patients with appointment details such as time, location, directions, and instructions. Maintains and updates physician schedules ensuring patients are scheduled property. Works in conjunction with the nurses/P.A to accommodate scheduling requests.
• Provides coverage for other coworkers for vacation and illness.
• Provides excellent customer service to patients and families. Demonstrates compassion and empathy.
• Monitors the receipt and indexing of faxes received, scans documents as needed. Sends faxes as ordered.
• Other duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 1year medical office experience highly desired.
• Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
• Must successfully complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying position.
• Ability to handle and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment and be able to multitask.

 

COMPETENCIES NEEDED:
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Previous knowledge of Electronic Medical Records highly desired.
• Previous Oncology experience highly desired.
• Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft (Outlook, Office Word, and Excel) highly desired.
• Adaptability: Handles day to day work challenges confidently; is willing and able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities; demonstrates flexibility.
• Commits to Quality: Emphasizes the need to deliver quality products and/or services to patients, families as well as physicians and other staff members.
