Texas Oncology is looking for a Coverage Certified IV Admixture Technician to join our team!  This position will support our South Texas Region including McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville and Weslaco, Texas.  This position also has the potential to travel across to all TxO Clinic Locations.

 

This position will be either a level I, II or Senior based on candidate experience.

What does the Pharmacy Tech do? (including but not limited to) 

The Pharmacy Tech, under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist working within a licensed pharmacy, performs the technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation. With minimal supervision, responsible for record keeping and inventory control.  Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or a registered pharmacist. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.  Specific state law may regulate that only licensed individuals perform compounding or mixing responsibilities.  As a result, certain incumbents are prohibited from said tasks. 


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to) 

  • Delivers training to pharmacy technician and pharmacist new hires.
  • Tracks training assignments and attendance and provides reports to management.
  • Routinely checks in with new pharmacy technicians to ensure training goals and progress are being met.
  • Partners with other pharmacy technician trainers, mentors, preceptors, and managers/supervisors to ensure consistency of training and onboarding.
  • Customizes training programs based on schedule and availability of employees. (i.e. virtual, one-on-one, on the job training).
  • Assists with maintaining and updating all training materials as processes, policies or procedures are changed.
  • Conducts observations and evaluations and prescribes best training approach based on results and needs of the company
  • Identifies training issues and opportunities for enhancement and development.
  • Encourage pharmacy technician advancement, development, and certification.
  • Maintain annual competencies set forth by company policy through supervisory visit conducted by corporate clinical team member.
  • Obtain appropriate state registrations or licenses as needed.
  • Participates in the coverage pool as scheduled and manager approval allows

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience: 

  • Level I 
  • High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy. 

 

  • Level II (in addition to Level I requirements) 
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills.   
  • I.V. certification preferred.   
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.

 

 Level Senior (in addition to Level I and II requirements) 

  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills.  
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience.   
  • Completion of an ASCP accredited program or community college-based program recommended. 
  • Previously demonstrated ability to mentor and train technicians.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Physical demands of this job typically require full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination and the ability to read and note appropriate measurements.  Requires sitting/standing for extensive periods of time.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
