Job Description

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as an Operating Room Nurse (RN) - Registry in our Outpatient Surgery Center at our Crown Point facility. UChicago Medicine Crown Point brings outstanding adult and pediatric care to the Northwest Indiana community. Its features include an eight-bed emergency department and small inpatient unit, an outpatient surgery center, and a cancer center.

 

The OR Nurse works under the direction of the OR Charge RN/Nurse Manager and is responsible for perioperative care of the patient, the direct professional and other health care personnel in the delivery of perioperative care to the surgical patients; revises surgeon’s preferences/orders as appropriate; complies with standards, policies, procedures; supports the vision and mission of Ingalls Ambulatory Surgery Center. The position will have a wide range of access to protected health information ("PHI") and understand the importance of confidentiality regarding all patient information pursuant to HIPAA policies and procedures.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assesses patient, identifies surgical site, implements plan of care
  • Assists with anesthesia induction and care of the patient while in the operating room
  • Performs perioperative duties of circulating/scrubbing and documents in electronic medical records
  • Monitors patient while in the OR suite
  • Follows all current AORN Standards, Recommended Practices, and Guidelines
  • Maintains effective communication and a working relationship with patients, families, physicians, co-workers, management, and ancillary departments
  • Acts as a preceptor when needed
  • Picks cases for the following day
  • Participates in huddles, staff meetings, and checks email at least once a month
  • Performs other duties assigned

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with an active RN license 
  • An active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association 
  • A minimum of 1 year of perioperative experience
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to plan and lead clinical operations as a member of a management team.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A completed Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing
  • Experience working within an ambulatory/outpatient surgical setting
  • Experience working with the EPIC electronic medical record

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
