As a PRN Surgical Nurse, you will provide safe, effective perioperative nursing care in one or more operating room units on an as-needed basis. You will support surgical procedures from pre-op through post-op, ensuring proper aseptic technique, maintaining specialty equipment, and promoting patient safety and comfort. This role is ideal for an experienced RN seeking flexibility while remaining engaged in high-quality surgical care.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive perioperative care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
Maintain sterile fields, instruments, and surgical supplies in accordance with AORN standards
Assist anesthesia and surgical teams before, during, and after procedures
Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts and ensure proper specimen handling
Support surgeon preferences and maintain accurate preference cards
Serve as a resource for staff and nursing students as needed
Promote patient safety and adhere to infection control and hospital protocols
Qualifications
Licensure: Current RN license with the Alabama Board of Nursing
Certifications: Must complete hospital-based ACLS and PALS
Experience: Minimum of 3 months nursing experience preferred; OR experience strongly preferred
Skills: Strong communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and teamwork
