About the role

The Youth Participation Worker seeks to meaningfully involve young people in all aspects of our work through proactive engagement opportunities to gain feedback on issues that directly affect them. The role achieves this through regular onsite and offsite youth participation activities as well as wider community-based projects and events.

Reporting to the Client Services Coordinator (After Hours), this is a permanent part time role offering 32.35 hours per week, located in St Kilda, VIC.

 

How you will make an impact  

  • Promote social inclusion by delivering school holiday programs, recreational activities, and community events (e.g. NAIDOC Week and IDAHOBIT Day)
  • Facilitate weekly residents’ meetings at Upton Road properties and conduct exit interviews with Youth Services clients
  • Lead the Upton Road Social Enterprise Initiative, creating education and employment pathways through the monthly Seedling Sale and key stakeholder partnerships
  • Support the upkeep of the Upton Road permaculture gardens and encourage youth participation in weekly gardening programs
  • Coordinate the Young Experienced Leaders (YEL) group, supporting regular meetings and sector development initiatives informed by young people’s lived experience


What you will bring

  • Tertiary qualification in social sciences, welfare or related field with a degree qualification preferred
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
  • A national police record check is required 
  • A valid Employee Working with Children Check 


Hours and salary

This role is a permanent part-time position of 65 hours a fortnight:

  • Monday: 8am - 4pm
  • Tuesday: 8am - 4pm
  • Wednesday: 2pm - 10pm
  • Thursday: 8am - 4pm

In addition, the position supports the Upton Road Plant and Seedling Sale with one 5 hour Saturday shift a month from 9am-2pm. Flexibility to outside regular hours may be required.

Conditions
Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Level 5.

  • Skills developing connections and formalising partnerships with key stakeholders such as local government and community organisations to create opportunities for young people in their local community.
  • Motivation to contribute to the Youth Participation and Social Inclusion Portfolio Group and other relevant Youth Participation networks.
