Assistant Store Manager - The Salvation Army Thrift Store
Location: Blue Springs, MO
Compensation: $17.00/hr.
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Flexible/Open to discussion (early shifts, late shifts, Saturdays, some holidays)
The Salvation Army is seeking a motivated and dependable Assistant Store Manager to support daily operations of our thrift store. This role assists the Store Manager in achieving sales and production goals, supervising staff, ensuring safety and compliance, and creating a positive shopping experience for customers. The Assistant Store Manager plays a key role in staff development, inventory control, and store appearance while supporting The Salvation Army’s mission.
Staff Leadership & Training
Support training, supervision, scheduling, and performance monitoring of store staff
Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and corrective action documentation
Review and approve time and attendance; submit payroll as assigned
Ensure compliance with Salvation Army employee policies
Provide guidance and support to ARC beneficiaries assigned to the store
Sales, Production & Operations
Help implement strategies to meet daily production and sales goals
Supervise donation processing, sorting, pricing, hanging, and product presentation
Ensure product rotation and timely processing of inventory
Coordinate with central warehouse and support eCommerce production quotas
Store Appearance, Safety & Loss Prevention
Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and visual standards
Ensure compliance with OSHA and Salvation Army safety policies
Monitor floor layouts and merchandising standards
Implement product control procedures to reduce shrinkage and spoilage
Report maintenance or repair needs promptly
Customer Experience
Create a welcoming and enjoyable shopping environment
Interact positively with customers and model excellent customer service
Support customer development and retention initiatives
Cash Handling & Reporting
Follow approved cash handling procedures for opening and closing registers
Assist with bank deposits and daily financial reporting
Track inventory and report sales and production results
Communication & Administration
Communicate regularly with the Store Manager and ARC Administration
Share incidents, concerns, ideas, and operational updates
Assist in managing store expenses within budget guidelines
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent
2 years of retail experience (thrift or donation-based retail preferred)
Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive per Salvation Army policy
Basic computer skills (POS systems, payroll, inventory systems)
Ability to communicate effectively in English
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle cash accurately

Supervisory or leadership experience
Ability to stand for extended periods
Frequent walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and lifting
Regularly lift up to 50 lbs; occasional team lifting up to 100 lbs
Ability to work in a store environment with moderate noise, dust, and temperature changes
