About this role

Position Summary: The Seasonal Operations & Events Support position is a 40-hour, temporary (90-day), position. This position provides hands-on assistance across multiple DHQ departments during a high-demand season. This role supports the Property Department, Administrative Team, warehousing operations, and Special Events, including major national, territorial, and divisional gatherings. Responsibilities include general labor, warehouse clean-out, facility support, event preparation, and logistical tasks at various Salvation Army locations. Some evenings or weekends may be required, especially during events.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Property Facilities & Warehouse Support
  • Assist with general labor tasks, including moving, lifting, loading, and disposal of items.
  • Support clean-out and organization of DHQ warehouse facilities located in:
  • Grand Rapids
  • Detroit
  • Warren
  • Help retrieve items from DHQ, Little Pine Island, and other divisional properties as directed.
  • Assist with disposal of outdated or unneeded materials in coordination with the Property Team.
  • Maintain cleanliness, order, and safe practices in warehouse and storage areas.
  • Special Events & Program Support
  • Provide on-site support for a national event hosted by the Great Lakes Division.
  • Assist at Echo Grove Camp in the kitchen, dining hall, and general operations areas.
  • Perform setup, breakdown, and logistical duties for events, meetings, and gatherings.
  • Support staff and volunteers with additional tasks assigned to ensure successful event execution.
  • Administrative & DHQ Support
  • Assist the General Secretary’s office and DHQ administrative departments with operational needs.
  • Support business, program, and property functions during peak workloads or special projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure smooth DHQ operations.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience: 

  • Minimum of High School Diploma/GED desired, or any equivalent of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

 

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: 

  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds consistently.
  • Comfortable working in physically demanding environments (moving inventor, warehouse labor, kitchen support, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel to various DHQ and divisional locations (Echo Grove, Little Pine Island, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Warren).
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and collaborate with team members.
  • Professional, reliable, and supportive of The Salvation Army’s mission.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed

 Certificates and Licenses: 

  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
