Pay Rate: $100.00 Per Day

Summary/Primary Purpose:  This position will do whatever is necessary to make the summer camping season successful.  If need be this person will act as a counselor being in charge of all the campers within their cabin.  They are charged with being a positive Christian influence for each of their campers. Responsibilities include developing the camper's social, physical, intellectual, vocational, emotional, and spiritual strengths through group living experiences and personal interest.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following.  Other similar and related duties may be assigned.

 

In addition to the duties and responsibilities below the counselor will adhere to and enforce all camp policies, procedures and safety regulations, always making camper safety a priority.  They will also know where the campers assigned to them are at all times while on campgrounds or on off-camp field trips.

 

 

  • Attend general staff training week, and read all material mailed prior to training week.
  • Provide leadership and direction to an assigned group of campers in daily activities, which include, but are not limited to:
    • Present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the campers by conducting devotions, prayer time, and Bible class.  Be available to provide spiritual direction to the campers as needed and record all accounts of a young person accepting Christ or requesting prayer.
    • Instruction/guidance in cabin cleanliness and care of property.
    • Instruction/guidance in personal hygiene.
    • Instruction/guidance on table manners and conduct in the dining hall
    • Guidance/Discipline to campers on an as needed basis according to the policies and procedures.
    • Overnight camp-outs and other pioneering activities.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled activities, programs, staff meetings, devotions, and meals unless otherwise directed.
  • Prepare and conduct or assist with, activities, classes and programs as assigned.
  • Assist in camp clean-up at the close of each camp, in preparation for the next group.  Assist with camper check-in and check-out.
  • Inspect and assure that your assigned cabin is clean, safe, and in good repair.  (Complete maintenance requests and return to the office).
  • Successfully complete the Salvation Army Safe From Harm training, the ARC CPR and First Aid Training or be able to supply documentation of previous and current certification.
  • Supervise health issues that may arise with your campers, including knowing which of your campers require medication and reminding them to see the Camp Health Officer as needed.  Maintain cabin first aide kit (seek replenishment from Health Officer).

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Education and/or Experience: Minimum one year of college preferred and one year preferred previous experience working with children in any setting.  Will provide on the job training

They will assist in creating a Christian atmosphere and support the infusion of Christian Outreach through the programming.  Preferred 6 months related experience in a personal relationship with Christ and working with youth.  This individual must be of good character, mature and able to uphold the Christian standards and ministries of The Salvation Army in all areas of job responsibilities.

 

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks.  English proficiency sufficient for communication with supervisors, co-workers, clients and customers.  Must live on camp grounds throughout duration of employment in camper cabin.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None required.  Will provide Safe From Harm training as well as CPR and First Aid training.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
