About this role

The Salvation Army Midland Headquarters is looking for a Human Resources Director. This individual is primarily responsible for providing direction and leadership to the human resources function, assistance and coaching to divisional leaders, and ensuring the human resources activities are conducted in an efficient, respectful, and compliant manner. This position is expected to advance and support the Mission of The Salvation Army and expected to comply with and meet The Salvation Army, Federal, State and Local policies and standards.

 

 

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, exempt position.

 Essential Functions

  • Direct administration and assist with implementation of Midland Division staffing, compensation/benefits, HRIS, training, worker’s compensation, safety, health, and security issues; work with management to plan and implement programs to meet personnel requirements supporting short and long-term organizational objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain control of on-going HR policies, programs, and procedures to foster understanding of and improvement in management, performance, supervisory and/or employee relations; review and resolve issues; provide DFB members, administrators, Corps Officers and designees’ advice on these policies, programs and procedures. Make regular reports of HR actions.
  • Supervise HR staff; plan, assign and review assignments; counsel and/or coach staff; evaluate job performance; approve and/or recommend actions.
  • Determine the need for, supervise and participate in the development and maintenance of HR programs, systems and studies. Submit recommendations to DFB for implementation.
  • Analyze and prepare statistical reports, narrative reports, and/or publications for use in formulating goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the staffing function by coordinating local recruiting efforts including but not limited to advertising, job postings, screening, interviewing, and hiring appropriate applicants and develop recruiting toolkits for remote divisional locations, providing guidance when necessary.
  • Conduct research to support legal action.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe From Harm guidelines.
  • Maintain a positive and professional work atmosphere with internal and external customers. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of customers; and professional and appropriate communication to and about employees and management.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

 

Responsibility for all Human Resource staff for assigning, checking, and delegating work for employees involved in development areas.  Evaluate and quality control check all work performed by said staff to ensure consistent, quality member experiences. Has responsibility for recommending hire, discipline, recognition, evaluating performance, recommending changes in position or employment status and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.

 

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position. 

Education:             Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.  Master’s degree preferred.

Certifications:       PHR/SPHR preferred

Experience:           Five (5) years human resources experience working at a leadership (manager or director) level and at least two (2) years supervisory experience. Combination of training and work experience will be considered. 

Skills:  Knowledge of HR principles, practices, and procedures; Federal, State and Local laws, rules and/or regulations affecting HR administration; and MS Office software package.  The ability to direct/plan/supervise the work of others; manage HR operations and coordinate them with other units; communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a wide variety of people; review and formulate policies and procedures; exercise control over the implementation of policies and procedures; assess risk and develop appropriate mitigation approaches; and maintain confidentiality.  Skill in organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data; project management; and customer service and dealing with a wide variety of people at all levels.  Must have an appropriate valid driver’s license and past TSA MVR check.

 

Travel

Occasional overnight travel may be required.
