Job Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

PROGRAM
1)    Know and respond to safety and health care needs of residents 
2)    Act as a role model for all residents as reflected by appearance, behaviour and attitude
3)    Perform Prime Worker duties as assigned by Residential Manager
4)    Provide support for resident’s personal development as decided through individual program planning
5)    Supervise and assist residents with meal preparation and clean-up
6)    Administer medication as prescribed and according to policies and procedures
7)    Support resident involvement in leisure activities (Christian Education, bowling, special events, etc.)
8)    Complete Shift Reports and update Communication Book
9)    Maintain pertinent residential records 
10)    Support family involvement with residents, site activities and special events
11)    Follow and promote the agency’s and site program goals and philosophy
12)    Liaise with transportation companies, day program staff, other professionals, families, etc. 
13)    Ensure learning opportunities are provided using agency and community resources 
14)    Track, compile, analyze and make recommendations based on resident data

NOTE:  The position of Residential Counselor – Primary Responsibility may also encompass the designation(s) of Prime Worker and/or, Counselor-In-Charge (CIC) as described below:


 Qualifications:    

1)    Completed 2-3 year Developmental Services Worker Diploma or other equivalent degree/diploma related to human services 
2)    3-5 years’ experience working with people who have developmental disabilities and/or mental health challenges
3)    Experience in individual program planning
4)    Valid Standard First Aid certificate (including CPR)
5)    Training and/or experience in medication administration
6)    Nonviolent crisis intervention, and behaviour management skills
7)    Ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide a supportive and nurturing environment
8)    Computer skills (MS Office, internet, etc.)
9)    Training and/or experience in personal care (i.e., assisting with G-tube feedings, continence devices) is an asset
10)    Training and or/experience in supporting individuals through ambulates, mobilizers, transfers is an asset
11)    Valid Driver’s license and French language skills are an asset

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $27.09 to $28.11 with a maximum of $29.13.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
