Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The role will provide general support to various services in the Community and Family Services setting of a Ministry Unit.

Accountabilities:

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar duties to the listed below:                        

• As directed, support pre-planned program activities for the community (food bank, crafts, sports, games, music, homework stations, Bible-based devotions, community church, meetings, students support, etc.). existing and new community outreach programs such as clothing distribution, showers, laundry and meal programs.
• Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
• Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns.
• Maintain strict confidentially of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
• Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
• May assist with different basic administrative tasks – photocopy activities, greeting visitors, supporting reception, forwarding visitors, etc. as required.
• May keep a log of different activities.
• Assists in the organization, Maintenance:, and general cleanliness of the lessons program areas.
• Assist with the MU/facility general clean up and set up for different activities.
• Provide general information to visitors.

Community and Family Services support work is focused on supporting, promoting, and enhancing well-being of individuals and families as well as assisting immediate needs of clients, donors, and visitors through emergency client assistance, Food Bank, community feeding programs, community referrals, seasonal programs (including Income Tax, Backpacks, Summer Camps, seasonal warming centre and all Christmas related activity) and other programs that are developed to meet the needs of clients and the community.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Governance Boards and Councils:

Internal: Ministry Unit leadership and staff, donors, volunteers.

External: General public, clients

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Ministry Unit Executive Director or Corps Officer
  • Direct reports: none

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

• Minor material responsibility.
• Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
• Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities.

Working Conditions:

• Working environment is typically in the corps building in generally agreeable conditions and some outdoor duties.
• Some work over weekends and evenings may be required.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• May deal with upset people or challenging behaviours.

education, experience, AND Qualifications:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Completion of High School.
• CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.
 

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

• Up to two years of related experience in social services related field Experience in community outreach kinds of work is an asset preferred
 

Skills and Capabilities:

• Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
• Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
• Understanding of individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
• Good team player.
• Good oral and writing skills.

*Successful incumbent must be between 15 and 30 years of age at beginning of employment term and be willing to work within Art of Work guidelines.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $15.69 to $19.62 with a maximum of $23.54.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
