The target hiring range for this job profile is $44,400 - $58,000. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
Description Summary
Fosters student success by identifying and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. Advises students on University policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. Assists in student orientation and teaches student survey course. Identifies new resources and collaborations for resolving student cases. Consistently directs students to appropriate resources. May serve as the instructor of record for University survey classes (MA required).
Resume Required
Required: Master's degree or 2+ years of equivalent experience. Able to readily articulate specific information on course content, programs, and policies, including specialty areas. Effectively builds relationships with students and possesses adaptive relational skills. Demonstrates advanced communication skills; able to provide detail and depth to information conveyed. Demonstrates and applies historical knowledge of the academic advising profession, including GE, enrollment plans, changing demographics, etc. Ability to apply theory to advising practice. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines and engages in discussions with stakeholders. Ability to tailor advising interactions to accommodate or incorporate student’s personal/cultural identity. Discusses relevance of program to student’s goals. Ability to assess a student's potential for success in a field of study and make appropriate referrals.
Desired: 1-2 years’ experience in academic advising.Knowledge of Title IX, Student, and University requirements and policies. Able to perform basic and advanced transactions in SIS and knowledgeable on uncommon SIS transactions (enrollment transaction inquiry, residency, admissions data, etc.). Broad knowledge of course offerings, including thorough knowledge of General Education requirements (and any programmatic preferences for meeting requirements), major courses, and course sequencing. Understands demographics and changing trends of their specific student population. Basic knowledge of student career development, especially in related fields; able to refer to appropriate engagement resources.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
