In support of CETE’s translational research mission, the Instructional Design Senior Specialist will design and develop high-quality and effective learning experiences in a variety of modalities. The position will apply evidence-based principles of learning experience design and andragogy and demonstrate mastery of the core concepts of learning theories, learning technologies and learning experience design. 

Designs, develops, implements, and assesses online, hybrid, and in-person learning experiences in support of different stakeholder groups. Importance is given to the understanding of concepts and principles of generative artificial intelligence in education and training and the commitment to contribute to seek funding sources to support that work at CETE. Familiarity with Ohio State’s design & research guidelines, as well as digital accessibility processes, is valued.

The individual is expected to use the scholarship of teaching and learning as it pertains to learning experience design, including the ability to review scholarly literature, synthesize and translate expertise to different audiences. It is also expected that this individual has experience publishing in scholarly outlets to strengthen the CETE translational research core mission. Additionally, this individual will assist on conducting applied research, participate in mentoring staff, and consult for different positions at CETE. 

Works with CETE program leaders, associates, faculty members, and graduate students to facilitate a collaborative learning experience design and development process; leads peer feedback and workshopping sessions. Employ project-management methodologies in a collaborative setting, including effective communication and collaboration with instructors, designers, technologist, peers, and external partners. Assist on seeking funds for strategic initiatives at CETE (e.g., translational research, generative artificial intelligence in education and training).

Leads and manages projects, takes a leadership role in team settings, conveys complex technical information through summarizing and simplification techniques in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience, and gathers consensus. 

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated employee who works effectively independently and as part of a team, who can provide examples of demonstrating flexibility and agility in achieving goals and building continuous improvement habits. Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 4 years of relevant experience required. 

  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in instructional/learning design or related field. Proficiency in a variety of industry-standard software (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Affinity Suite, Microsoft 365, and Figma).
  • Proven expertise in developing learning solutions with Articulate 360, specifically Storyline and Rise. Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and guidelines (WCAG) and responsive design. 


Desired Experience:
Advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable. Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Learning Technologies, Learning Design, Human-Computer Interaction or related fields. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.

4-10 years of professional experience in instructional/learning design or related field desired. Experience designing and implementing assessments of learning. Experience training people. 

Proficiency and experience with graphic, audio and video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition, Audacity, DaVinci Resolve). Experience using generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Notebook LM, and Gemini). 

Experience with web design, web development, HTML/CSS, and WordPress. Fluency in user experience and user interface (UX/UI) design principles. Proven experience with various types of content creation (visual, interactive, video, podcasts, etc.).
