You have a proven track record of making ambitious and creative video across a range of subjects and formats.</p> <p>You will oversee a multi-format show, spotlighting and building on Times Opinion's deep bench of expertise and reporting. You will shape video columns with the Times' signature voices, conversations in a podcast format, and occasional reported argued essays. Coverage areas will span a variety of topics from political reporting to international news.</p> <p>You have an entrepreneurial spirit, a deep background in original reporting and newsroom management, and a strong strategic sensibility. You have a passion for visual and audio journalism and experimentation with storytelling, and a strong grasp for assigning and managing multiple projects.</p> <p>This is an in-office position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.</p> <p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Manage a team of journalists making video pieces and podcasts with columnists or guest contributors.</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Coach/guide talent</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Edit scripts and re-writes, provide notes on drafts</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Pitch your own stories and help shape others' pitches</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Establish and manage workflows across audio and video teams</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Ensure smooth production with clear deliverables and deadlines</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Guide and encourage producers to work to their maximum potential</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Experiment with new video formats</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Form strong relationships with New York Times Opinion's signature voices</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Liaise with the other departments to ensure audience, operational, and editorial support for the team</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Demonstrate support and understanding of our&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nytco.com/company/mission-and-values/" target="_blank">value of journalistic independence</a>&nbsp;and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>You will report to the Director of Video</p> </li> </ul> <p><strong>Basic Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>10+ years producing digital news videos or podcast video</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>5 + years managing direct reports.</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Deep familiarity with vertical video platforms and the changing social media landscape</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Broad knowledge of current events and news</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Familiarity with digital storytelling formats</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Experience working with talent</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Experience in a fast-paced news environment</p> </li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Narrative audio experience</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Experience working in nonlinear editing software</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Demonstrated success in the creation of innovative content under pressure</p> </li> <li class="css-v55p23"> <p>Excellent writing, editing and communication skills</p> </li> </ul> <p><strong></strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">REQ-019467</span></p><div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="title">The annual base pay range for this role is between:</div><div class="pay-range"><span>$160,000</span><span class="divider">&mdash;</span><span>$185,000 USD</span></div></div></div><div class="content-conclusion"><p>For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
