We’re looking for Engineering Managers to help us take our apps to the next level. Some of the opportunities include:</p> <ul> <li>Build engaging features to improve the reader experience in our flagship News app</li> <li>Maximize subscriber value within our Growth Platform</li> <li>Apply the latest trends in native and hybrid development to create engaging experiences on our Games team</li> <li>Help users discover and cook the world's best recipes on the Cooking team</li> <li>Build the foundational technologies that empower all mobile teams by joining the App Platforms team</li> </ul> <p>This is a hybrid role, based at our New York City headquarters, reporting to the Mobile Engineering Manager and collaborating with native Android and iOS engineers, QA, product, project, data, and design professionals.</p> <p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Guide and mentor the growing mobile engineering team to ensure consistent technical direction, best practices, high team performance, effective and efficient delivery across multiple mobile initiatives</li> <li>Oversee the mobile technical operations strategy for both iOS and Android platforms</li> <li>Collaborate with other teams to ensure alignment on department&nbsp; and company strategies</li> <li>Collaborate with Engineering Managers to develop best practices and processes for development for a growing cohort of engineers</li> <li>Oversee career development and performance management of a team of engineers</li> <li>Demonstrate support and understanding of our <a href="https://www.nytco.com/company/mission-and-values/">value of journalistic independence</a> and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world</li> </ul> <p><strong>Basic Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li>1+ years experience as an Engineering Manager leading a native mobile team</li> <li>Experience with mobile operation tooling (CI, build systems, app store integrations, etc)</li> <li>Prior experience in software development, working with iOS or Android</li> <li>Experience facilitating the growth of a team through hiring, developing engineers, building trust, and creating and refining delivery processes</li> <li>Demonstrated understanding of the mobile domain and its unique complexities</li> <li>Experience managing high-performing teams, including senior engineers</li> <li>Experience explaining highly technical concepts to non-technical partners and stakeholders</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Expertise in Swift/SwiftUI and/or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose</li> <li>Knowledge of mobile architectures (MVC/MVP/MVVM), concurrency, memory management, and multi-device/version support</li> </ul> <p>REQ-019425<br>#LI-Hybrid</p><div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="title">The annual base pay range for this role is between:</div><div class="pay-range"><span>$152,000</span><span class="divider">&mdash;</span><span>$190,000 USD</span></div></div></div><div class="content-conclusion"><p>For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
