Job DetailsJob Location: Champlin Ave - Utica, NY 13502Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $20.16 - $20.16 HourlyTravel Percentage: NoneJob Shift: OvernightQualificationsEducation and Experience Requirements: 1.    Minimum high school or equivalency diploma required; some higher education preferred. 2.    Experience working with juvenile justice involved youth highly desirable; sufficient maturity to work with and relate to youth required.  Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies: 1.    Commitment to following and embracing the Seven Commitments of our Sanctuary Model. 2.    Ability to form positive relationships with youth.  3.    Ability to understand and respond to youth's basic developmental needs. 4.    Ability to understand and follow agency policy and Trauma Informed Care orientation.  5.    Understanding of basic needs and developmental issues of youth in a way that promotes growth and respects individuality. 6.    Asks age and developmentally appropriate questions and actively listens to youth’s responses. 7.    Develops a warm, positive, nurturing relationship with each youth. 8.    Follows mandated reporting requirements regarding child abuse and neglect. 9.    Practices infection control, including appropriate hand washing procedures. 10.    Uses knowledge of developmental milestones, assists youth in participating at their individual level of interest and ability. 11.    Uses observation as a way to “get to know” youth –their interests and developmental levels.  12.    Interacts with children during meal and snack times, promoting appropriate social behavior. 13.    Applies knowledge of youth development to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and environments. 14.    Adapts activities and environments to meet the special needs and situations of individual youth. 15.    Identifies developmentally appropriate behavior and reasonable expectations for youth’s behavior. 16.    Ability for role model and teach appropriate behavior to youth.  17.    Demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times. 18.    Valid New York State drivers license.

The House of the Good Shepherd was founded in 1872 in Utica, New York to help meet the needs of local children and families. Since then, The House has evolved with the changing child welfare system. We have grown into a comprehensive human service agency providing treatment to more than 600 children and their families a year. Our goal is to help children and families, who are struggling with serious emotional, social and behavioral problems, discover their ability to succeed. Children and families who arrive at The House often have exhausted every available option for remaining together. Our main location is on a 27-acre campus at 1550 Champlin Avenue in Utica, New York. The House currently employs 400 full- and part-time staff and has more than 200 volunteers and student interns. The House of the Good Shepherd is classified as a non-sectarian, non-profit corporation, and is designated as a 501(c)3 charitable institution. We provide services without regard to ethnicity, religion, or financial status.
