Job Description – Analyst, Global Trade Operations (Salty & Canada)

Position Title: Analyst, GTO Salty & Canada
Reports To: Associate Manager, US & Canada Global Trade Operations
Department: North America Supply Chain


Summary

The Analyst, Global Trade Operations is responsible for supporting the daily internal operations related to Importer/Exporter of Record activities while ensuring full compliance with Customs and Participating Government Agencies (PGA) regulations. This role oversees imports and exports primarily for consumption, with occasional in-transit movements.

Key duties include scheduling duty payments, monitoring release messages from Customs, coordinating with transportation providers, and resolving border holds. The role requires working knowledge of Free Trade Agreements, the Safe Food for Canadians Act, Canadian Food Inspection Agency requirements, CBSA importation processes, as well as US‑to‑Canada customs procedures, statutory timelines, and admissibility requirements.

This position must proactively prevent delays at the border by ensuring complete and accurate documentation, including tariff classification, valuation, and country-of-origin details. The role demands urgency and prioritization due to the unpredictable nature of customs and CIFA exams, as well as consistent communication with Warehousing, S&OP, and QA teams.

The Analyst will also be responsible for managing sample order shipments worldwide, monitoring the end-to-end process from order creation to delivery, and coordinating with internal teams, carriers, brokers, and customers.

Additional responsibilities include evaluating customs broker performance through defined metrics, implementing and reviewing KPIs, completing monthly CARM reports, reconciling duties and fees, and maintaining a consolidated report of all import/export transactions to ensure visibility and supplier payment accuracy.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Global Trade Operations Execution – 40%

  • Coordinate daily communication with internal functions, Customs, PGAs, and 3PL partners.
  • Work with Transportation Management teams and 3PLs to align ACE Manifest (PAPS/PARS) with entry filings.
  • Collaborate with logistics teams to prioritize shipment releases based on ETA and urgency.
  • Monitor release messages from Customs and PGAs; escalate holds and ensure non‑released goods remain “Held Intact.”
  • Process in‑bond shipments moving through the US to third countries and track closure of in-bonds.
  • Work with regulatory agencies to facilitate clearance and resolve issues proactively.
  • Communicate release updates and documentation needs to forwarders and brokers.
  • Track shipment locations and coordinate transportation to final destinations, including preparing delivery documentation.
  • Ensure accurate payment of duties and fees and support Finance with related inquiries.
  • Maintain system tables to ensure timely triggering of required documents from SAP.

2. Sample Shipments Management – 30%

  • Manage sample shipments between US/Canada and international destinations.
  • Create sales orders and ensure proper handling of regular and new items.
  • Coordinate pickups with warehouse and carrier teams.
  • Ensure correct documentation for sample movements.

3. Reporting, Compliance and Process Improvement – 30%

  • Maintain a General Report of all import/export transactions.
  • Conduct monthly CARM report reviews and analyses for AP Finance.
  • Develop, implement, and improve KPIs related to global trade operations.
  • Ensure SOPs exist for all processes, review annually, and support cross‑training initiatives.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of customs brokerage operations.
  • Understanding of Customs messaging protocols.
  • Familiarity with truck, air, rail, and ocean manifest requirements.
  • Understanding of FDA and CIFA hold/release procedures.
  • Knowledge of tariff structures, including agricultural quotas, ADD/CVD, and FDA/CIFA rules.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems; SAP GTS knowledge is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Strong critical thinking, analysis, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of import/export operations across various countries preferred.
  • Experience in multinational environments desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking capabilities.
  • Effective prioritization and time‑management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication.
  • Flexibility to work across different time zones and occasional weekends/shifts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Education: BS/BA in Logistics, International Trade, Economics, Business, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 1–2 years working directly in Canadian and US import brokerage (minimum 1 year required).
  • Languages: Bilingual English/Spanish required; additional languages are a plus.
