Job Purpose:
To develop complete estimates for projects and provide support from the preliminary phase of a project all the way through the bid phase.
Essential Duties Responsibilities:

- Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracts for construction projects based on preliminary information, contract requirements, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
- Review and evaluate project documents to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project.
- Generate Request for Information clarification requests to identify project unknowns, risks, and conflicts.
- Accurately measure areas and volumes to generate estimate quantities.
- Clearly articulate the methodology and reasoning underlying the pricing and quoting to project managers, managers, clients, and vendors.
- Prepare and solicit quote requests for project estimates.
- Liaise, consult, and communicate with regional managers, project managers, subject matter experts, bid managers, engineers, risk, procurement, and subcontractors to develop comprehensive scopes of work, estimates, budgets, and bid packages for project opportunities.
- Follow opportunity process document.
- Organize, communicate, and hand-off successful project estimates to the operations team.
- Evaluate and implement technological improvements to increase department productivity.

Skills:

- Able to break down construction operations into a logical sequence of activities.
- Able to operate and navigate software-based platforms in real-time. Most specifically, advanced MS Excel user and skill level.
- Quick Learner – Training is provided for estimating techniques, industry terms, construction methods, and production rates.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- College education is preferred, especially with a focus in construction management or engineering.
Preferred requirements:
- Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications as required to perform the estimator role efficiently and accurately.
- English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Building and Construction
- Experience in the construction and/or coatings industry
- Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office with heavy interaction with Bid Managers and Designated Approvers.
- Extended hours may be required to meet deadlines.
