We are seeking an ISP Fiber Specialist to be part of our Structure Cabling team. This position will be a responsible for installing and maintaining fiber optic cables.
Responsibilities
· Resolve, repair, and install fiber optics systems and ensure that they work properly.
· Take care of fiber splicing and rectify fiber optic problem areas.
· Communication with PM on manpower and material needs.
· Serve as a liaison between office and field, communicating all information that is not classified as confidential.
· Communicates with other trades on jobsites.
· Adhere to site specific and company Safety protocols
· Maintain proper housekeeping for a safe jobsite
Requirements
· Understanding of cable routing standards
o Cable installation
o Pathway installation
· Ability to identify complete fiber color code.
· Familiarity with MS office suite and other software suites applicable to the role including but not limited to:
o MS Excel
o MS Outlook
o MS Word
o Bluebeam
· Understanding of polarity as it pertains to fiber connections.
· Familiarity with the different fiber optic connection types:
o MPO
o LC
o SC
o APC
o ST
· Ability to splice individual and ribbon style fiber.
o Fusion and Mechanical techniques
o Splice on connectors
o Splice on pigtails.
o Splicing of bare fiber
· Ability to terminate utilizing all industry standard methods.
o Epoxy/Polish
o Mechanical splice on connectors
· Familiarity with all major manufacturers’ product lines regarding fiber
o CommScope
o Corning
o Megladon
o Panduit
· Advanced level of fiber troubleshooting capabilities
o OTLS
o OTDR
o VFL
o Proven ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
· All T1/T2/T3 requirements plus advanced level of ability in fiber optic installations and terminations, with an emphasis on the inside plant environment.
· OSHA 30, preferred but not required for hire. Minimal OSHA 10.
· Proficient in construction related software (Plan Grid, Bluebeam, etc.)
· Aerial lift certification
· Fall protection certification/training
Physical Requirements
· Able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.
· Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, and climb.
· Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
· Able to work on a ladder up 8 hours.
· Able to work in confined spaces.
Physical Demands
This position requires physical activity consistent with a construction or installation environment. The employee will spend more than two-thirds of their time standing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms. Approximately one-third of the time may be spent walking and engaging in verbal communication or listening. Frequent lifting and moving of materials weighing between 25 and 50 pounds is required.
Work Environment
This role may involve travel to project sites and exposure to a variety of environmental conditions. These may include outdoor weather, proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery, and the use of hand tools or hardware. Employees may be subject to frequent heavy lifting and other physical demands typical of a construction or warehouse environment.
