Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, data science, Artificial Intelligence, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD, and civilian customers. 

The Cloud Platforms and Architectures Department is seeking applicants with a passion to learn cloud systems and solutions, focused on research and development with state-of-the-art technologies. Interns will be given the ability to work on multiple projects over the summer, covering different customers, focus areas, and tools. Internship tasking is intended to allow students to complement their academic studies with hands-on, career-building experience.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in Chantilly, VA or El Segundo, CA.

What You’ll Be Doing  

  • Perform software and hardware development for various cloud-related rapid prototyping activities
  • Research and experiment with state-of-the-art software and hardware technologies
  • Manage Linux systems to provide Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) capabilities
  • Implement DevOps technologies to streamline development, testing, build, and deployment of applications
  • Leverage Cloud tools and platforms, such as Kubernetes and Cloud services from Amazon Web Service (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Investigate bleeding edge cloud technologies for current and future implementation by customers in the space domain
  • Receive training and mentorship from cloud and software development subject matter experts
  • Learn about projects, tools, and technologies used across the enterprise
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed 
  • Training and mentorship will be provided

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Master’s degree in computer science, data science, computer engineering, or related discipline
  • Undergraduate degree completed by internship start date 
  • Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a Master's degree program full- time after completion of the internship
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Software development experience with at least one major language (e.g., Python, Java, C/C++, Go, Rust, etc.)
  • Understand how to use Linux/Unix systems
  • Familiar with DevOps tools, such as Git, Jenkins, and/or ArgoCD
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: 

  • GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Active security clearance
  • Knowledge of Linux systems management
  • Experience with cloud and virtualization tools, such as Docker, Kubernetes, and/or VMware technologies
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

We offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business.  The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below.  Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
