About this role

We are searching for an Orthodontic Assistant II – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting and a team player. In this role, you will provide orthodontic assistance in the patient care area in a manner developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served (0-18 years) and adults as necessary.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sterilizes and disinfects instruments not sent to Central Sterilization and Processing, cleans dental carts and sets up instrument trays daily according to guidelines established by Hospital. 
  • Prepares materials and assists orthodontist during orthodontic procedures on children (and adults) as necessary on a daily basis.
  • Participates in Hospital quality improvement activities (committees, teams, task forces), offers written or verbal recommendations and participates in the development of team goals yearly.
  • Makes follow-up appointments for children (and adults) as needed.
  • Reviews charts and schedules for next day’s clinics to ensure necessary information is available for the orthodontist
  • Lab duties
  • Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is a knowledge of orthodontist procedures. 
  • Should have computer skills. 
  • Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is the ability to use dental equipment including chairs, carts, amalgamating, curing lights and OTC sterilizer
  • The ability to work with patients with special needs, e.g. cleft lip and palate

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Skills & Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Registered Dental Assistant from the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners required
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association 
  • 6 months required experience as an orthodontic assistant - 1 year preferred 
  • Cranial Facial experience preferred 
  • Willing to support both dental and orthodontics
