The New Student and Family Orientation Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of New Student Orientation within the Cisneros Institute for Emerging Leaders and collaborates with the Assistant Director to facilitate JagX (First-Year Just-in-Time Orientation Program) by coordinating JagX Leader Student Training, day of logistics, and vendor coordination. Additionally, they are the primary contact for Family Orientation, Family Association, family programming, and family communications.
Salary: $46,000
Responsibilities:
JagX (First-Year Just-in-Time Orientation Program) [40%]
Lead JagX Student Leader Training in collaboration with campus partners.
Coordinate logistics for a multi-day orientation for 1,300+ first year students.
Organize selection, ordering, and logistics with caterers and third-party companies.
Coordinate educational sessions for students in small groups.
Collaborate across campus for program logistics.
Facilitate program assessments.
Family Orientation [25%]
Coordinate logistics for 15+ family full day orientation sessions.
Organize materials for over 1,500+ family members each summer.
Collaborate with campus partners for presentations.
Coordinate Family Convocation for over 800 family members.
Facilitate program assessments.
Family Communication and Programming [15%]
Communicate via e-mail weekly to over 5,000+ family members about upcoming student events, family events, and timelines.
Manage A&M-SA Family social media accounts.
Organize family programming and educational experiences such as Trunk or Treat and Family Weekends.
Collaborate to produce family programming with campus partners.
Serve as the advisor for A&M-SA Family Association.
Student Employee Supervision [10%]
Supervise 2 family and JagX engagement student employees.
Facilitate the hiring, training, daily supervision, and evaluation process.
Provide professional development for student workers.
Other Responsibilities [10%]
Support The Cisneros Institute in the execution of programs such as Leadership Conference, Weeks of Welcome, Jaguar Awards, Senior Night, etc.
Support Student Engagement Office in the execution of Transfer Orientation, Transfer Week, Transfer Assemblies, New Student Orientation, etc.
Participate in other university events, committees, and professional development opportunities as a representative of Student Engagement.
Additional duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field.
Two (2) years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in student personnel, higher education, or related field.
Two (2) years of post-baccalaureate professional experience in collegiate student affairs, orientation, transition, or first-year programming.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of orientation program development and major campus program planning.
Enthusiasm for working with incoming students, their families, and student parents.
Skilled in development of learning outcomes and the assessment cycle.
Ability to make appropriate decisions following campus policies and procedures.
Effective teamwork, problem solving, organization, time management, verbal communication, project management, presentation, and written communication skills.
Ability to work flexible hours. Some early morning, evening and weekend hours are required.
Bilingual (ability to speak Spanish)
Biliterate (ability to read and write in Spanish)
